Martha Biddle received her undergraduate degree in nursing from Thomas More College in Edgewood, Ky. She received both her master’s degree and Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing from the University of Kentucky (2002, 2011) where the focus of her doctoral studies was the role of dietary antioxidants in patients with heart failure. She has received awards recognizing her research and clinical expertise (American Heart Association Translational Research Award; UK Excellence in Graduate Precepting, UK Teacher Who Made a Difference Award; Heart Failure Society of America, Nursing Research Award). In 2013, she was inducted as a fellow of the American Heart Association.  Dr. Biddle is a professor for the Clinical Nurse Specialist Track in the Doctor of Nursing Practice Program.  Her strong commitment to fostering the next generation of nurse scientists is evident in her instructional activities at the College of Nursing; she teaches in the DNP and PhD programs, mentors undergraduate research interns and chairs the Advancement of Student Scholarly Affairs Council. Her individual program of research focuses on biobehavioral and nutritional interventions for cardiovascular risk reduction. She has received grant funding from UK Center for Clinical and Translational Science (CCTS), Southeast Center for Agricultural Health and Injury Prevention funded by NIH/NIOSH, Southern Nursing Research Society (SNRS) and Sigma Theta Tau International. She is a Co-Director of the RICH Heart Research Program, a group of investigators with multiple NIH and PCORI funded projects.

Dr. Biddle is a certified clinical nurse specialist with a clinical practice in the UK CCTS procedures lab and a previous practice in general cardiology with Gill Heart Institute at the University of Kentucky. Her peer reviewed scholarship has been presented to international and national audiences. She has several leadership roles with multiple professional organizations and currently serves as President of the Delta Psi Chapter for Sigma Theta Tau International.
