Stephanie Steele, DNP, BSN, RN

Stephanie Steele earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) in 2018 after first receiving her BA in psychology and her BSN from the University of Kentucky. She began her nursing journey in 1997, obtaining her ADN from Midway College. She began teaching as a clinical instructor in the undergraduate psychiatric/mental health nursing course in Spring 2013. In 2020, she transitioned to a full-time lecturer role, teaching in both the traditional undergraduate and ABSN psychiatric/mental health nursing programs. Prior to her academic career, she worked as a Behavioral Health staff nurse and intake coordinator for UK Healthcare for 10 years. Dr. Steele received the UK Clinical Nurse Excellence Award in 2007. She also worked in inpatient psychiatry at Frankfort Medical Center and served as a psychiatric travel nurse in Rhode Island, Connecticut, and California. Her clinical background includes two years in telemetry at UK Chandler Medical Center. Dr. Steele is a member of the American Psychiatric Nurses Association, the American Nurses Association and Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, Delta Psi Chapter. Her areas of interest include working with the acute and chronically mentally ill and advocating to reduce the stigma associated with mental illness.
