UK College of Nursing Remembers Orlando
On behalf of the College of Nursing, Dr. Jenna Hatcher, our director of diversity and inclusivity, expresses our sympathy for the tragedy that took place in Orlando on Sunday.
“On Sunday June 12, 2016 in Orlando, Florida, we experienced another senseless act of violence against a marginalized community. I join the University community and others in our country in expressing heartfelt sympathy for those affected by this act of hatred and ignorance. I encourage our community of nurses to join me in expressing support for the LGBTQ* community and other marginalized communities who are affected daily by hate and divisive behaviors and are at constant threat for these types of horrendous acts of violence. Please join me in celebrating the diversity that will allow our profession, our schools and our country to be places where people of all orientations, faiths, racial and ethnic identities, ages and backgrounds to feel accepted, included, and safe to be who they are.”
We invite you to attend a memorial gathering tomorrow from 12-1:30 p.m. at the Violence Intervention and Prevention (VIP) Center to come together as a UK community, honor those lost and nurture resiliency as we move forward. More information on the event can be found here.
