UK nursing grad is inspired by family, driven by care

Witnessing his older sister’s battle with spina bifida left an indelible mark on Nathan Reynolds. Countless hospital visits and surgeries shaped his childhood, sparking a deep desire to help ease the suffering of others. This compassion, combined with the steadfast dedication he saw in his mother, a nurse, inspired Reynolds to pursue a remarkable journey toward his own career in nursing.

UK researchers expand access to radon mitigation in Kentucky with $2.6 million grant

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Nov. 13, 2024) — When people breathe in radon gas, they are more likely to develop lung cancer, particularly when they also breathe tobacco smoke. Radon, a radioactive gas, occurs naturally when uranium breaks down in rock and soil.    

UK’s College of Nursing celebrates community with Annual Chili Cook-Off

The University of Kentucky’s College of Nursing Wellness Council hosted its annual Chili Cook-Off at the College of Nursing Building. Participants were able to showcase their chili on Oct. 24 with judges basing their decisions on the flavors and spices to determine who would be this year’s winner. As judges and attendees got a cup of chili, College of Nursing faculty and staff were able to take a break from their busy schedules, and enjoy each other’s company.

Jordan Brown and Omar Brown Receive 2024 Lyman T. Johnson Awards

Congratulations to College of Nursing senior Jordan Brown and Class of 2024 alum Omar Brown on receiving 2024 Lyman T. Johnson awards! Jordan received the Torch Bearer award and Omar received the Torch of Excellence award. They were honored and presented the awards - along with 33 other award winners from colleges across the University of Kentucky - at a ceremony during the 2024 Homecoming Week. 

College of Nursing, College of Public Health launch Public Health Nursing Scholars program

One of the greatest challenges facing both the Commonwealth of Kentucky -- and the country -- is the current and growing shortage of health professionals, particularly nurses. A new program from both the University of Kentucky (UK) College of Public Health and the UK College of Nursing offers students a new pathway to make a difference in communities.

Alumni Spotlight: Matt Eubank

Meet Matt Eubank BSN, RN, a dedicated and compassionate Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) graduate who embodies the values of excellence, empathy, and service in healthcare. He serves as a 1st Lieutenant in the Kentucky National Guard and plays a crucial role as a military liaison here at the college. In this capacity, he provides invaluable support to current ABSN students were also medics in the U.S. military.
