Dr. Anthony Carney (he/him/his) is a two-time graduate of the UK College of Nursing (BSN 2014, DNP 2019). He was awarded the UK College of Nursing Alumni Award for his work in the graduate program. His bedside experience in nursing includes CVICU, generalized critical care, emergency services and medical surgical nursing at UK.



Dr. Carney is the course coordinator for Medical-Surgical Nursing II for the traditional BSN program. He is also the co-founder of the Health Equity Internship where nursing students gain critical experience in LGBTQIA2S+ health, BIPOC+ health, rural health and global health through service-learning and community advocacy. As a result of his teaching, he was awarded the UK College of Education’s Teacher Who Made a Difference Award.



Outside of the College, Dr. Carney is a family nurse practitioner at the UK College of Nursing Phyllis D. Corbett Community Health Center and is a participating provider in UK HealthCare’s Transform Health clinic. Through Transform Health, Dr. Carney provides affirming healthcare services for LGBTQIA2S+ folks including primary care, common mental health diagnoses, PrEP and PEP therapy, hormone initiation and management, and connection to local resources.



Dr. Carney has a clinical and research interest in LGBTQIA2S+ healthcare, diversity and inclusivity, and identity formation of LGBTQIA2S+ adolescents and young adults. He has active memberships in Delta Psi, the Kentucky Coalition of Nurse Practitioners and Nurse Midwives, and GLMA: Health Professionals Advancing LGBTQ Equality.
