Janine Barnett received her BSN in 2000 and her MSN in the Perinatal Clinical Nurse Specialist track in 2007 from the University of Kentucky. Her professional experience spans roles such as labor and delivery nurse, childbirth educator, obstetric clinical instructor, prenatal lecturer, maternal-fetal medicine clinic nurse, and perinatal research nurse coordinator. Notably, she served as the Assistant Director of the University of Kentucky Perinatal Research and Wellness Center, where she played a pivotal role in designing, implementing, and managing research programs and protocols across clinical, community, and academic settings. She currently still practices as a staff nurse in the Maternal-Fetal Medicine group at Baptist Health Lexington and facilitates the evidence-based Get Fit and Quit tobacco cessation program at residential treatment facilities in Lexington, Kentucky. Janine joined the College of Nursing faculty in August of 2023 as a Lecturer and Clinical Coordinator in the undergraduate program for the Maternity and Reproductive Health, Foundations of Health Promotion Principles, and Complementary Birth Methods courses. Janine is credentialed as a Tobacco Treatment Specialist, an ACE-certified Group Fitness Instructor, a Diabetes Prevention Program Lifestyle Coach, a SCRIPT®️ Tobacco Treatment Counselor, an American Heart Association Freedom from Smoking®️ Facilitator, a CenteringPregnancy®️ Facilitator, and an #iCANendthetrend facilitator. She leverages her expertise and passion to empower the next generation of nurses and to advance the health and wellness of women and families throughout Kentucky. Janine won the UK College of Nursing Excellence in Engagement for Research-Based Team Members award for her work in 2020. She has had the opportunity to present at local, state, and national events related to her clinical expertise and published scholarship. Janine is a member of several nursing organizations including Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society for Nursing and the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nursing.
