College of Nursing Faculty Member Awarded Outstanding Alumnus Award

Associate Professor Karen Butler, DNP, MSN, RN, received the Outstanding Alumnus Award from the College of Nursing Alumni Association at the College’s homecoming brunch on Fri., Oct. 2. The annual Outstanding Alumni Award is presented to an individual who holds an undergraduate or graduate degree from the UK College of Nursing and who exemplifies a commitment to support the college and the profession of nursing. Butler was nominated by Jessica Wilson, PhD, APRN, assistant professor and RN-BSN coordinator.

UK Alumna appointed Dean of University of Pikeville’s Elliott School of Nursing

UK College of Nursing alumna Mary Rado Simpson, Ph.D., RN, was recently appointed as the founding dean of the Elizabeth Akers Elliott School of Nursing at the University of Pikeville after serving as both division chair and interim dean for the nursing programs. “I truly see nursing education as an area of specialty within nursing practice,” said Simpson. “You must advocate for students and co-workers as you would for any patient. Ethics and quality underlie all areas of nursing regardless of the setting.”
