The Provost’s 2023 Outstanding Teaching Awards: Cathy Catlett

Cathy Catlett, assistant professor in the UK College of Nursing, is one of 10 winners to receive the University of Kentucky’s 2022-23 Outstanding Teaching Awards. These awards identify and recognize individuals who demonstrate special dedication to student achievement and who are successful in their teaching. Recipients were selected via nomination and reviewed by a selection committee based in the UK Provost’s Office for Faculty Advancement and the Center for the Enhancement of Learning and Teaching. 

Markey study: New program shows promise in reducing financial burden of cancer care

The rising cost of cancer care puts patients and their caregivers at increased risk of experiencing financial toxicity, a term used to describe financial hardship caused by out-of-pocket treatment costs. A new University of Kentucky Markey Cancer Center study published in JCO Oncology Practice found that the use of a financial navigator can significantly reduce financial toxicity for patients with hematologic cancer and their caregivers.

UK Nursing's Lovoria Williams, UK cancer center works to decrease disparities for Black, Hispanic communities

The University of Kentucky’s Markey Cancer Center is working to decrease the health disparity that Black and Hispanic communities face. The community health worker position was formed under the Kentucky Cancer Program. It’s a statewide program led by the University of Kentucky’s Markey Cancer Center and the University of Louisville’s Brown Cancer Center.

Three UK Nursing Faculty Honored as Fellows of the American Academy of Nursing

  Three UK College of Nursing faculty were honored as Fellows of the American Academy of Nursing (FAAN) on Saturday, October 29th, in a ceremony in Washington, DC.  Dr. Ana Maria Linares (DNS, RN, IBCLC), Dr. Gia Mudd-Martin (PhD, MPH, RN, FAHA), and Dr. Kim Tharp-Barrie (DNP, RN, SANE, FNAP) were inducted to this prestigious group.  Fellows are nursing leaders in education, management, practice, and research and represent nurses in higher education, hospital administration, state and federal government, and entrepreneurship.

College of Nursing's JungHee Kang's Research on Diet and Health Literacy Recognized at International Conference

  UK College of Nursing’s Dr. JungHee Kang was selected as the winner of the Nursing and Allied Professions Investigator Award for her best research presentation at the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) Congress in August 2022, which was held in Barcelona, Spain.
