Appropriate workload management by educational unit administrators would best meet the educational unit and college responsibilities by maximizing the application of faculty expertise through a Distribution of Effort or DOE.
The rationale for a DOE stems from the recognition that the University's three-part mission is an aggregate institutional mission, not necessarily the mission of each individual faculty employee.
The DOE will permit the educational unit administrator, with approval by the dean, to assure fairness in the distribution of responsibility among faculty employees. The merit evaluation system should reflect the reality of workload distributions and the amount of effort that constitutes a full load equivalent.
