In honor of Veterans Day, the UK College of Nursing recognizes a student who’s not only served in the Air Force, but who’s goal after graduation is to aid fighters and veterans. Originally from Las Vegas, NV, Kyle Herzberg served for eight years in the Air Force as a Russian cryptological language analyst and is currently in the College’s Accelerated BSN program.

“I decided to go into nursing because I want to help our war fighters, veterans, and people of faraway lands when they are most vulnerable and hurt,” says Kyle. “I also want to serve as a commissioned officer to help guide and direct the future of our Air Force. Nothing would be a greater honor than doing it as a Nursing Corps Medical Officer.”

Kyle decided to enroll in the UK College of Nursing’s program for many reasons, from the program’s accolades to the people.

“I chose UK because of its overall reputation as an amazing school. It has a top-notch BSN program and more importantly, ABSN program. UK's commitment to MedVets and to the military community was another huge motivator for me. Finally, after speaking with several schools' administrative personnel about application and program guidance, it was Professor Jennifer Cowley's efforts that sealed the deal for me. She was so helpful and portrayed the College’s commitment to student success, which I now see and experience every day. We in the ABSN program are extremely lucky to have faculty like her and the rest of the amazing professors as our nursing role models.”

"Thank you Kyle and to all of our veterans and their families for their service and sacrifice," said UK College of Nursing Dean Janie Heath.  "In honor of Veterans Day, let us all take a moment to reflect upon and show gratitude to the more than 19 million living American veterans who have bravely served to protect this great nation.  As a College of Nursing, we’d like to also give special recognition to those who served as medics in the field— those who treated, cared for and saved the lives of their fellow soldiers.  Words cannot truly express our gratitude, but to all of the veterans and their families who are a part of our Big Blue Nursing Nation and beyond – we see you, and we thank you!"
