JungHee Kang is an assistant professor in the College of Nursing, and a member of the Cancer Prevention and Control Research Program at the Markey Cancer Center and the Research and Intervention for Cardiovascular Health (RICH) Teams at the University of Kentucky. Additionally, Dr. Kang is a member of the Community Health Advocacy iNterventions Generating Equity (CHANGE) Team.

Dr. Kang received a BSN at the School of Nursing at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, an MPH with a concentration in biostatistics, and a PhD in Nursing from the University of Kentucky. During the PhD/MPH program, she received training from the NIH-supported Summer Genetics Institute (SGI). She completed post-doctoral training in a NIH-funded Building Interdisciplinary Research Careers in Women’s Health (BIRCWH) program and a graduate certificate in Applied Nutrition & Culinary Medicine. She has received the Martha Hill Early Career Investigator Award (American Heart Association) and Nursing and Allied Health Professionals Research Award (European Society of Cardiology), recognizing her research expertise. She was also selected as a Jonas Nurse Leader Scholarship fellow and Southeastern Conference (SEC) Emerging Scholar. Dr. Kang’s research focuses on the associations of diet with sex differences, psychological factors, social drivers of health, dysbiosis, inflammatory mediators, in chronic diseases, such as cancer and cardiovascular diseases, and health outcomes. She has received grant funding from the RICH Heart Program and the BIRCWH Program.

Dr. Kang’s career goal is to promote health by developing biobehavioral and nutritional interventions for cancer and cardiovascular risk reduction, and to support and train the new generation of nurse scholars.
