Dr. Chung currently is a Professor in the College of Nursing, where she is a co-director of the RICH Heart Program. Dr. Chung has been studying patients with heart failure and family caregivers since 2002. Dr. Chung is an internationally recognized expert on dyadic research in cardiovascular and stroke patient and caregiver dyads.  She has successfully expanded her dyadic research into families living with other chronic illnesses and preventing poor health outcomes of families. Her research emphasizes the dynamic interdependent relationship between patients with chronic cardiovascular disease and family caregivers and the behavioral, physiological, and psychological outcomes of both dyad members. She also focuses on developing family-based interventions to improve outcomes in both patients and caregivers. Her research program covers a broad range of factors affecting outcomes such as adherence behaviors (e.g., low sodium diet and medication), psychological distress (e.g., depression and anxiety), and social support in both dyad members. She has served as PI or co-I on nearly 15 million dollars of extramurally-sponsored research, including two NIH R01 funding as the PI. Her research contributions are recognized by being inducted as Fellow of the American Heart Association (2013), Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing (2014), the Sigma Theta Tau International Nurse Researcher Hall of Fame (2018), and University Research Professor Award (2019).
