Stacy R. Stanifer is an Assistant Professor in the College of Nursing and member of the BREATHE team. Additionally, Dr. Stanifer is a member of the Cancer Prevention and Control Research Program and Lung Cancer Translational Research Group at the Markey Cancer Center, and co-Leader of the UK-CARES (Center for Appalachian Research in Environmental Sciences) Community Engagement Core.  Dr. Stanifer completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from the University of Kentucky, College of Nursing in 2001 and went on to earn her Master of Science in Nursing degree from the University of Louisville, School of Nursing in 2009. In 2020, Dr. Stanifer completed her Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing degree from the University of Kentucky, College of Nursing. From the beginning of her nursing career, Dr. Stanifer has committed herself to providing the very best nursing care to patients with cancer and their caregivers. As an Advanced Oncology Certified Clinical Nurse Specialist, Dr. Stanifer is passionate about elevating the level of cancer care provided to patients through the implementation of evidence-based science. Her research interests concentrate on the avoidance of cigarettes and reducing exposure to two environmental carcinogens, radon and secondhand smoke, as a means of lung cancer prevention. In addition, Dr. Stanifer has an interest in using research to inform health policy. In her faculty appointment, as an Assistant Professor in the Research Title Series, Dr. Stanifer will be responsible for conducting research in the areas of environmental risk reduction including radon, tobacco, cancer prevention, and health policy. Dr. Stanifer is an active member of the Oncology Nursing Society, Bluegrass Oncology Nursing Society, American Nurses Association, and Kentucky Nurses Association.
