Homecoming 2018: Celebrating our Golden Wildcats!

The College of Nursing celebrated the 50th anniversary of the class of 1968  - our Golden Wildcats - and the classes of 1978, 1988, 1998 and 2008 at the Signature Club on Friday, Oct. 19. Students and faculty gathered for lunch and heard from Dr. Janie Heath, dean and Warwick Professor of Nursing, to honor the legacy and tradition of nursing excellence left by the Golden Wildcats.

CON Alumni, Hall of Famer Leads Baptist Health Lexington, Hospital System Recognized Worldwide for Nursing Excellence

With Baptist Health Floyd earning a Pathway to Excellence® (Pathway) designation, Baptist Health becomes the only health system worldwide to have all of its affiliated hospitals receive a designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) with a combination of either Pathway to Excellence® or Magnet Recognition Program®. In 2014, Baptist Health’s chief nursing officers set a goal for all owned and managed hospitals to achieve Magnet® recognition for nursing excellence or the Pathway to Excellence designation, both issued by the ANCC.

From Bikes to Hikes: BSN Alum Honors Life of Former Nursing Student at Everest Base Camp

  In 2016, May 2018 BSN graduate Maya Husayni biked a thousand miles with her family to raise more than $17,000 for Syrian Refugees. Fast forward two years; she just completed a hike to Everest Base Camp, this time honoring Shayn Elexendere, a former student who passed away before he could graduate with Husayni's class. Husayni says it's a Buddhist tradition in Nepal to hang prayer flags so that the prayers are sent with the wind. 

Heroes of UK: Shannon Beebe Among First Students to Graduate from MedVet-BSN Option

  Shannon Beebe knew from a young age she wanted to help people. Inspired by her mother who was a nurse, Shannon grew up watching her work in a clinic, interacting with doctors and patients. "I just saw the rewards that were in that field," said Shannon. "There's a joy in giving and that's where I'm at. I just love to give to people."

UK Nurse, Alumna Running in Boston Marathon to Raise Money for 50 Legs

By Elizabeth Thompson   While handling anything from headaches to motor cycle accidents, Carson Swartz understands the importance of having a healthy way to relieve stress. “Running is my outlet,” Swartz said. Swartz is a graduate of the UK College of Nursing and now works in the UK Emergency Department in the level one trauma center. An accomplished distance runner, she said the Boston Marathon is “every runners dream".

UK CON - Norton Healthcare Academic-Practice Partnership Graduate Presents at AACN Doctoral Conference

Dr. Whitney Spear, 2017 graduate of the College of Nursing DNP Program associated with the Norton Healthcare  Academic-Practice Partnership was a participant in a presentation at the American Association of Colleges of Nursing Doctoral Conference on Friday, January 19. 2018. Dr. Lora Peppard of George Mason University led the presentation - A Value-Added Approach to Screening Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment (SBRIT) Integration within Doctoral Level Nursing Programs.

College of Nursing Inducts Five Distinguished Nurse Leaders into Hall of Fame

The UK College of Nursing was proud to celebrate its five newest Hall of Fame inductees at the 21c Museum Hotel on Friday, November 10 at 7 p.m.

Three UK Nurses Receive Florence Nightingale Award in Nursing

  Kristin Ashford, PhD, WHNP-BC, FAAN, Gwen Moreland, DNP, RN, NE-BC and Carol Wright (UK CON alum) were among six nurse leaders awarded the University of Louisville School of Nursing Nightingale Award on Thursday, November 2, 2017 at the Mellwood Arts Center. The award recognizes Registered Nurses (RNs) who excel in providing patient care, impact the profession of nursing and/or improve the overall health of citizens living in Kentucky or Southern Indiana through practice, teaching, research and/or service.
