Global Engagement

Please join us for UK's Global Case Competition!

The Global Health Case Competition (GHCC) is an innovative student competition that rallies graduate and undergraduate students to participate on interdisciplinary teams to develop strategies that address a critical global health challenge. The top team will be awarded $3000 and travels to Emory University's International Case Competition.

Education Abroad

The Office of Education Abroad offers a variety of programs for academic credit in the field of nursing. To get started with the program search process, please visit the International Center Education Abroad website, or visit the Education Abroad Resource Center in 315 Bradley Hall. 

Many other Education Abroad programs may count as pre-requisite, cognate or global dynamic core requirements. If you have questions or concerns regarding a specific program, please contact Allison Peoples (allison.peoples@uky.edu), the College of Nursing Education Abroad advisor. 

Education Abroad Opportunities for Pre-Nursing Students

  • Spend your fall semester abroad in with Global Semesters in Nicosia, Cyprus. Live on the campus of the University of Nicosia while earning credit for pre-nursing requirements and your UK Core. Cyprus has 12,000 years of cultural history, world-famous beaches, and world-renowned geology, and it’s a quick plane ride to Europe. Typical excursions include trips to the Sea Caves in Ayia Napa, the Kolossi Castle in Limassol, Aphrodite’s Rock in Paphos, the Kyrenia Castle and Harbor, and the mountains of Troodos.     • Fall program runs from the 3rd week of September to the 3rd week of December.
  • Spend your fall semester taking pre-nursing requirements and UK Core classes at the WorldStrides Global Campus in Seville, Spain. You can make the most of your time abroad with immersive excursions and interactive activities throughout your program. From flamenco shows to cooking classes and visits to the Real Alcázar, this program pairs a robust academic experience with rich cultural exploration in one of Spain’s most vibrant cities. Education Abroad Opportunities for Nursing Students

  • Shoulder to Shoulder Global - Ecuador: Three times a year health care teams, with oversight from UK faculty partner, work with a full-time/year-round primary care clinic in Santo Domingo, Ecuador to supplement care in a low-resource community for 10 days. This spring-embedded class (NUR 396) counts towards the nursing cognate requirement. Please reach out to Dr. Hartley Feld if you have any questions!

  • Shoulder to Shoulder Global - Kenya: Once a year health care teams, with oversight from UK faculty partner, work shoulder to shoulder with Kenyan healthcare students, healthcare professionals, Kenya’s Worldwide Hearts and Hands (WHH), and community leaders to provide clinical care to members of multiple communities outside of Nairobi, Kenya. This spring-embedded class (NUR 396) counts towards the nursing cognate requirement. Please reach out to Dr. Hartley Feld if you have any questions!

  • Study Longevity and Wellness in International "Blue Zones”: Alternating years in Greece and Costa Rica (even years in Greece, odd years in Costa Rica), every May for 8-10 day experiences. Experience first-hand how lifestyle and location (nature walks, cooking lessons/demonstrations, relaxation, spirituality) contribute to balance and longevity. Learn from the island's oldest and most self-sufficient people through observation, discussion, and community service projects. Take part in a traditional island festival and sense the island's dedication to community. This spring-embedded class (AFE 396) counts towards the nursing cognate requirement.
