Cognate Courses

The College of Nursing requires students who were accepted into the CON Fall 2025 or later to take a total of three credit hours in a cognate course(s).  These three credits must be taken from the approved Cognate course list below. 

Students who entered the program Spring 2025 or earlier must take six credit hours of cognates.  For these students, at least three of those six credits must be NUR prefix cognates, or global courses approved as NUR through the CON.  The other three credits may non-NUR prefix courses but must be on the list of approved cognates as listed below.
