
Dean of UK College of Nursing Speaks at U.S. Capitol for National Cancer Prevention Day
College of Nursing Dean and Warwick Professor of Nursing Janie Heath, PhD, APRN-BC, FAAN, spoke at the U.S. Capitol among a panel of scientists, legislators, educators and industry experts in honor of National Cancer Prevention Day on Thurs., Feb. 4.
National Cancer Prevention Day is a resolution introduced by Representative Steve Israel that highlights nonprofit Less Cancer’s efforts to bring attention to cancer prevention. Created by the Next Generation Choices Foundation in 2004, Less Cancer educates citizens about behavioral and environmental risks linked to cancer and continually finds new opportunities to reach individuals and communities.
The conference took place at 9 a.m. in the Cannon Caucus Room in the Cannon Building. Other participants in National Cancer Prevention Day include: Congressman Charlie Dent; Congresswoman Debbie Dingell; Congressman Steve Israel; Margaret I. Cuomo, MD, moderator and curator of Medical and Scientific Content; Meghan L. O’Hara, recipient of Less Cancer’s Leadership Award; and John D. Groopman, PhD, 2016 Ronald B. Herberman Memorial Speaker.
