Perspectives in Psychiatric Care, Edited by Evelyn Parrish, Inducted into Nursing Journal Hall of Fame
Evelyn Parrish, PhD, PMHNP-BC, FAANP, associate professor and director of Accreditation & Strategic Outcomes for the University of Kentucky College of Nursing, was recognized by the International Academy of Nursing Editors (INANE) for being the editor of Perspectives in Psychiatric Care - one of seven journals inducted into the Nursing Journal Hall of Fame.
The International Academy of Nursing Editors (INANE) established the Nursing Journal Hall of Fame to recognize scholarly nursing journals that have 50 or more years of continuous publication and sustained contributions to nursing knowledge.
The second cohort of seven journals were inducted into the Hall of Fame at the 38th Annual Meeting of INANE on Wednesday, July 31st at 1:30 pm in Reno, NV. This induction brought the total number of journals in the INANE Nursing Journal Hall of Fame to twenty.
The seven honored journals are international in scope and cumulatively represent 473 years of scholarly publication in nursing. The journals are a cross section of professional nursing practice, research, education, and leadership and demonstrate depth in nursing excellence and scholarship through the published literature.
Funding for the awards has been generously provided by Marion Broome, PhD, RN, FAAN, Editor-in-Chief of Nursing Outlook and Dean and Ruby F. Wilson Professor of Nursing for Duke University School of Nursing and Vice Chancellor for Nursing Affairs at Duke University.
The seven honored journals, with founding dates are: 1) Kai Tiaki Nursing New Zealand (1908); 2) Philippine Nursing Journal (1923); 3) Nursing Forum (1961); 4) International Journal of Nursing Studies (1963); 5) Perspectives in Psychiatric Care (1963); 6) Canadian Journal of Nursing Research (1969); and 7) Journal of Neuroscience Nursing (1969).
INANE is an all-volunteer organization whose members include editors, publishers, and others involved in the dissemination of nursing knowledge through the scholarly literature. Established in 1982, INANE hosts an annual meeting and maintains an active mailing list, Facebook page, and Twitter account for its members.
Dr. Parrish received her BSN from Eastern Kentucky University and her MSN and PhD from the University of Kentucky. She earned a post-master’s certificate as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner-Family from Rush University. Her dissertation focus was on the clinical outcomes of care provided by psychiatric mental health nurse practitioners. She has been a nurse for more than 25 years, focusing on the care of the mentally ill for most of her nursing career. She has been a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner for the past 19 years, specializing in mood disorders, anxiety, and co-morbid psychiatric-medical conditions. Dr. Parrish began her teaching career at Eastern Kentucky University in 2006. She was the coordinator of and taught primarily in the PHMNP option of the MSN program but has also taught in the Prelicensure, RN-BSN and DNP programs. She served as the Director of the Graduate Nursing Programs and was the coordinator of the Online Nursing Programs at Eastern Kentucky University.
Dr. Parrish serves as the Medical Director and practices at Access Wellness Group in Lexington, KY. She is respected speaker at the national and international level in both the care of the mentally ill client as well as developing and delivering online programs. Dr. Parrish is past-president of the International Society of Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurses and continues to serve the organization in a variety of capacities. She is the Editor of Perspectives in Psychiatric Care - The Journal of Advanced Practice Psychiatric Nurses. Dr. Parrish continues to serve as a site visitor and team leader for CCNE.
