Pinning 

When: Friday, May 14, 2021, at 9 a.m.  *doors open at 8 a.m. 

Where: Memorial Coliseum, Avenue of Champions, Lexington, Ky.

Ceremony program 

The UK College of Nursing is returning to an in-person Pinning Ceremony for Spring 2021. 

The University seeks to provide the safest environment possible for all guests, staff and participants while attending any event in Memorial Coliseum.  A risk of exposure to COVID-19 exists in any public place, including events at UK. Guests with pre-existing health conditions or who are otherwise at risk should consider not attending on-campus events during this unprecedented time.

Parking 

Parking will be available in several lots near and around Memorial Coliseum for the event.  The two closest and largest lots are:

  1. the Joe Craft Center Lot located behind Memorial Coliseum, accessible via Lexington Ave. or Rose St. (#5 on map)
  2. the Gatton Student Center Lot located across from Memorial Coliseum and next to the Gatton Student Center, accessible via Avenue of Champions (#10 on map)

Entry and seating process 

  • Entrance/exit locations: 
    • Graduates are to enter and exit Memorial Coliseum at the Rose St. side entrance 
    • Guests are to enter and exit Memorial Coliseum at the Lexington Ave. side entrance/Joe Craft Center Ticket Office entrance
    • Faculty are to enter and exit Memorial Coliseum at the Avenue of Champions front entrance 
  • Doors to the event will open at 8 a.m. 
  • There is a no bag policy for this event. Exceptions will be made for medically necessary items
  • Guests are permitted to enter with one unopened bottle of water smaller than a liter 
  • Guest are required to arrive with the individuals in their pod of four
  • Upon entry to the Joe Craft Center Ticket Office, guests will be asked to list the name of the graduate they are a guest of. Guests will then receive up to four tickets with a designated section, row and seat numbers then proceed into Memorial Coliseum
  • All seating in Memorial Coliseum is reserved. Guests are asked to sit in the assigned seat locations listed on their ticket
  • Should guests need wheelchair-accessible seating or will rely on closed captioning for ceremony enjoyment, please notify college event organizers prior to the event

Health and safety measures

  • Face coverings, over the nose and mouth, are required for all guests as they enter, exit and move around Memorial Coliseum
  • Limit time spent on the concourse – no loitering or congregating
  • Utilize hand sanitizer and wash hands as frequently as possible
  • Guests are asked to perform self-screening evaluations and to stay home if they feel sick or may have been exposed to COVID-19
  • Guest seating will be configured throughout the west seating bowl to provide physical distancing between seat blocks
  • Please keep a distance of at least six feet between yourself and other guests who are not in your party. Signs around Memorial Coliseum will serve as a reminder
  • Families will be encouraged to meet up with their graduate outside of Memorial Coliseum and are not allowed to wait in the Memorial Coliseum concourse

PhD & DNP Recognition Ceremony 

When: Friday, May 14, 2021, at 11:30 a.m.

How to watch/participate

The Ceremony viewing options are divided up to ensure adequate streaming capacity.  If you are a student or faculty member with a speaking role, you may join the event via Zoom.  For all others (family, friends, faculty with no speaking role, etc.), please watch the ceremony via livestream on the UK College of Nursing YouTube Channel

Guidelines for participants 

  • Be on time: The zoom link will open up 15 minutes prior to the ceremony’s start and will be locked by 11:35 a.m. to ensure ceremony security. Any late arrivals can still watch the ceremony via livestream.
  • Wardrobe:  Regalia is not expected for the student graduates or faculty.  We simply ask that participants present themselves in a respectable manner.
  • Chat: The zoom “chat” function will be disabled until the end of the ceremony, where it will be opened up for any participants to make congratulatory comments.  
  • Security: The College of Nursing reserves the right to remove or kick off any participant that is not supposed to be in the zoom session or is not following guidelines.
  • Technical assistance: Technical assistance from the College will not be available during the ceremony.  We have staff that will be monitoring any broad technical issues during the event.  If someone does experience technical issues, the ceremony will be available to watch live or view after the event on the  UK College of Nursing YouTube Channel
