UK Nursing Professor Earns Distinction as Fellow of the AANP

University of Kentucky College of Nursing professor Sharon Lock was one of four Kentucky nurse practitioners recently inducted as a Fellow of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (FAANPs).

​Quest for Knowledge

When Rebecca Dekker, PhD, RN, APRN, had her first child six years ago, she left the hospital puzzled by many aspects of the experience. Primarily, as a healthy young woman giving birth to a healthy baby, why had she been treated throughout her stay as though she were unwell? “I felt like I was a heart patient, with all the rules applicable to a sick person,” says Dr. Dekker, who conducts cardiovascular research nursing at the University of Kentucky’s College of Nursing.  

College of Nursing Faculty Member Testifies on Capitol Hill​​

University of Kentucky College of Nursing Professor Sheila D. Melander, PhD, APRN, ACNP-BC, FCCM, FAANP and president of the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties (NONPF), presented testimony to the Institute of Medicine’s (IOM) Committee for the Evaluation of the Impact of the Institute of Medicine Report: The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health, on May 28 in Washington.

​Dr. Ellen Hahn Named Associate Director for UK Center for Health Services Research

11/17/2014  – Dr. Ellen Hahn is one of three UK faculty members who have been selected as associate directors to help lead the UK Center for Health Services Research (CHSR), said Dr. Mark V. Williams, director of the center. The Center will focus on creating, testing and scaling next-generation solutions to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of health care delivery and the overall health of people within Kentucky and beyond.

A Conversation With the New Dean

10/30/2014 – Last March, after a long, nationwide search, the University of Kentucky announced the good news—the College of Nursing had found its new dean. Janie Heath, PhD, APRN-BC, FAAN, is a national nursing leader with nearly 40 years’ experience in nursing and a background marked by nationally recognized achievements in nursing education, tobacco control and health care outreach.

Carolyn Williams Inducted Into UK College of Public Health Hall of Fame

10/28/2014 – The UK College of Public Health inducted two new members into its Hall of Fame during the 11th Annual Hall of Fame celebration in October 2014. The Hall of Fame was established in 2004 as a means of formally recognizing individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the health and welfare of the citizens of the Commonwealth, the nation, or the world. The 2014 inductees into the Hall of Fame are Dr. Samuel Matheny and Dr. Carolyn Williams, who have both demonstrated such achievement and commitment.
