Isaac Jones’s first deployment was in 2009, and as the only medic in his unit, he conducted more than 300 missions—more than anyone else on his team. Now, Jones is using these experiences to fuel his education in becoming a nurse right here at the UK College of Nursing.

UK College of Nursing Celebrates 50 Years of the Nurse Practitioner Profession

Fifty years ago, the first nurse practitioners program was established at the University of Colorado. Today, more than 205,000 nurse practitioners are licensed to practice in United States. The University of Kentucky College of Nursing joins the nation in marking 50 years of the nurse practitioner profession during National Nurse Practitioners Week, Nov. 8-14. The college offers a doctor of nursing practice program, which prepares nurse practitioners to design, implement, manage, evaluate and lead health care delivery systems at the highest level.

UK College of Nursing alumna Mary Smith witnessed her first miracle in the field when she trusted her intense gut feeling that ultimately saved a NICU baby's life. Presley Collins spent the first 12 hours of her life like most newborns — swaddled in blankets and fawned over by family members in a hospital room.

Nursing Research Papers Day at the University of Kentucky

Nursing Research Papers Day will take place on Fri., Nov. 6 in the Colonial Ballroom of the Campbell House and will showcase the work of UK HealthCare nurses and College of Nursing students. From 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., presenters will discuss research topics ranging from the management of sepsis to the use of Facebook as a support medium for heart failure patients with left ventricular assist devices. New Director of Diversity and Inclusivity is Building a Nursing Profession Reflective of Patient Population

College of Nursing Faculty Named Provider of the Month by the Advanced Practice Providers

Associate Professor Lynne Jensen, PhD, RN, APRN, was named provider of the month by the Advanced Practice Providers, a council that provides a forum for discussion of issues (national, state and institutional) relevant to the scope and standards of practice for advance practice providers. Jensen, who also serves as the medical director for the Advancement of Women’s Health Primary Care Practice, earned her bachelor’s in nursing from Boston College, her master’s as an adult nurse practitioner from State University of New York at Buffalo and her PhD at the University of Kentucky.
