First DNP Program in Nation Holds First DNP Faculty Conference in Region

Wethington Building.

College of Nursing to Host 12th Annual Faculty Development Workshop

  The UK College of Nursing’s Office of Continuing Education will host its 12th annual faculty development workshop titled “Teaching to Transform for the New Reality of Nursing Practice” on May 16-17 at the UK College of Nursing and the UK Chandler Medical Center. This workshop will feature national speakers and unite nursing faculty from across the U.S. in an effort to examine teaching practices to transition nursing students into the reality of nursing practice.

UK College of Nursing to Host Inaugural Nurse Executive and Leadership Review

The UK College of Nursing’s Office of Continuing Education will host its inaugural Nurse Executive and Leadership Review on March 9-10 in the Charles T. Wethington Building rm 127. This two-day course will feature expert nurse leaders from UK and across the nation who will review essential principals and strategies of leadership to promote self-confidence in the current health care system.

Author of A Nurse’s Story discusses her book with UK’s pre-nursing students

Tilda Shalof, author of A Nurse’s Story, spoke to pre-nursing students about her work as a an intensive care unit (ICU) nurse and what it is really like to work behind the closed hospital curtains. Shalof discussed the drama, the sardonic humor, the grinding workload, the cheerful camaraderie, the big issues and the small, during her talk at Memorial Hall on September 29, 2015.

Nursing students attend suicide prevention conference

Three clinical groups from NUR 401 Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing and their instructors attended the Suicide Prevention Conference: Raising Awareness & Sharing Our Stories Featuring Carol Graham on Tuesday, Sept. 1.   The University of Kentucky Office of Work-Life presented the one-day conference at the William T. Young Library. The event featured a talk by Kentucky native, Carol Graham, who shared her own personal story of loss.   

Academic Writing Specialist Shares Her Expertise With Graduate Students

Nursing students often exit Whitney Kurtz-Ogilvie’s office ready to go and with a sense of relief. Nothing could please this faculty member more. Kurtz-Ogilvie, MFAW, is an academic writing specialist for the College of Nursing and UK HealthCare. She was hired five years ago, in a joint appointment, to help DNPs and PhDs and those pursuing advanced nursing degrees with scholarly writing.
