CON Faculty & Staff Recognized as "Teachers Who Made A Difference"

Kentucky Deans, Students Advocate on Capitol Hill

  Monday was a record day for the AACN Kentucky deans and students to meet with legislators advocating for Title XIII nursing workforce funding and Nursing NIH funding in Washington, D.C. Kentucky Deans include Drs. Mary Kishman from NKU, Marcia Hobbs from Murray State and Sonya Hardin from Louisville. Students include Murray State CRNA student Michael Goss (UK BSN alum), UK PhD student Stacy Stanifer and UK Med-Vet student Matt Dixon. Legislators included Congressmen Hal Rogers, Andy Barr, Tom Massie and Brett Guthrie.

Achieving Work-Life Balance: Building Resilience Among Faculty, Staff and Students

  With busy and somewhat erratic schedules, demanding classes and clinicals, and the pressures of balancing everyday life, nursing school can be a challenge, even for the best of students. At the University of Kentucky College of Nursing, a movement is afoot to not only teach students, faculty and staff about how to deal with stress and anxiety but also provide tools to do so. The undertaking is part of a larger campus-wide strategic goal to develop “Work-Life Balance.”

Dean's Advisory Board 2018

The College of Nursing Advisory Board was created in 2007 and provides advice and counsel to the dean on matters for which external advice is critical. The board meets twice each year and considers a variety of topics that may include long-range planning and philanthropic endeavors. Its members also advise on achieving the College’s goals for national and international prominence in teaching, service and research.

Office of Continuing Education Receives Grant from Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality

Hazel Chappell, MSN, RN, director of Continuing Education, and her team, Drs. Lynn Roser and Marcia Stanhope recently received an R13 conference grant award from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality entitled “Reducing Antimicrobial Resistance: Shifting the Paradigm through Antibiotic Stewardship Emphasizing Evidence-Based Practices and Interprofessional Collaboration."

UK Named Top School for LGBTQ* Students

  By Blair Hoover Conner The University of Kentucky recently ranked among the top 25 campuses in the nation for LGBTQ* inclusion and safety. UK received five out of five stars for overall campus climate from Campus Pride Index, a national benchmarking tool for colleges and universities which self-assesses LGBTQ*-friendly policies, programs and practices, conducted by and for LGBTQ* experts in the field of higher education. The index includes more than 235 colleges and universities.

Professor, Assistant Professor Receive $1.7 Million to Improve Health in Rural Kentucky

The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) recently awarded Sharon Lock, PhD, APRN, FNAP, FAANP, professor and assistant dean of Faculty Practice, and Dianna Inman, DNP, RN, APRN, CPNP, PMHS, PMHNP, assistant professor, a $1.7 million award entitled "Enhancing the Role of the Parimary Care Registered Nurse in Rural Kentucky." 

College of Nursing Celebrates a Year of Excellence at Annual Awards Ceremony

  College of Nursing faculty, staff and students gathered on Tuesday, May 8, for the annual Celebration of Excellence Awards Ceremony and Reception, where they were recognized for their outstanding achievements and contributions for the 2017-2018 academic year. BSN & DNP Students Join Dean Heath at Annual AACN Health Policy Summit on Capitol Hill

UK College of Nursing BSN student Alli Overfield and DNP student Eva Stone joined Dr. Janie Heath, dean and Warwick Professor of Nursing, at the annual American Association of Colleges of Nursing Health Policy Summit on Capitol Hill, March 25-27. They joined other Kentucky deans and students to advocate for funding for nursing education and research to impact health and wellness in vulnerable populations.
