Johnson Constituency Group awarded undergraduate nursing student Simone Curd and alumna LaJava Chenault, MSN, RN, the Torch Bearer and Torch of Excellence Awards at its 26th Annual Homecoming Awards Celebration on Oct. 7 at the UK Alumni House.

30-Year College of Nursing Veteran Named Employee of the Year

  At the heart of every college is an employee whose unforgettable character has a ripple affect on the entire academic community. A 30-year College of Nursing veteran, our assistant dean of students Joanne Davis has impacted thousands of lives under four deans. Her kindness, leadership and experience made her the perfect choice for this year’s Employee of the Year award.   After countless hours of hard work and dedication to a new mastery comes a new nursing credential, and with those letters comes a new annual educational requirement set by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). The ANCC, a subsidiary of the American Nurses Association (ANA), certifies and recognizes individual nurses and health care organizations in addition those that provide continuing nursing education.

Sherry Holmes, who Helped Establish the Kentucky Children's Hospital, Retires from a Distinguished Career at UK

  Sherry Holmes, MSN, RN, is retiring after spending 40 years in service at the University of Kentucky Albert B. Chandler Hospital and six years of service in the University of Kentucky College of Nursing. Sherry received her BSN in nursing in 1972 and her MSN with a focus in parent-child nursing and nursing administration in 1982, both from the UK College of Nursing. She began her nursing career at UK in Obstetrics for two years while a nursing student and then six months as an RN before transferring to work in pediatrics, which would become the focus of her career.
