DNP student Ben Hughes manages school, full-time job amidst COVID-19 pandemic

Ben Hughes, BSN, RN, is one of a handful of UK HealthCare professionals who manages a full-time job and family responsibilities while also pursuing his DNP Executive Leadership degree at the University of Kentucky College of Nursing. He has been able to excel at his job and schoolwork in a year when the COVID-19 pandemic put extreme pressure on those in the medical field—and especially those in care environments with a high volume of coronavirus patients.

Meet senior BSN student and ROTC cadet Maggie Nosek

Maggie Nosek, senior BSN student and U.S. Army ROTC cadet, knew she wanted to become a nurse after experiencing a collapsed lung and the subsequent partial removal of her lung prior to college. Nosek feels at home in the University of Kentucky College of Nursing because she values the program’s holistic approach and the personalized care instructors take to ensure student success.

Meet Student Ambassador Kaylee Fitzgerald

  Following in her mother's footsteps, Kaylee Fitzgerald knows that a career in nursing is rewarding because she grew up seeing how nurses impact healthcare. Kaylee is a sophomore nursing student in the Traditional Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program.   Watch video here  Colin Goodfellow knows a thing or two about being a team player. As the punter for the University of Kentucky football team, Goodfellow relies on his teammates to bring the Wildcats to victory. Everyone knows their position and works together. The same model, he says, applies to the dynamic between him and his fellow nurses at UK HealthCare.

UK College of Nursing honors Spring 2021 graduates in PhD, DNP programs

  The University of Kentucky College of Nursing celebrated its Fall 2020/Spring 2021 Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing and Doctor of Nursing Practice graduates during a Virtual PhD & DNP Recognition Ceremony on Friday, May 14, 2021.   The ceremony was led by Janie Heath, dean of the UK College of Nursing, and also recognized the College's post-graduate certificate recipients.

With Support from Her College, Nursing Student Finds Her Passion

  Like many students who start at the University of Kentucky, Danielle Duncan didn’t know exactly what she wanted to be when she grew up. She tried a few paths; she started down a major in public health before applying to the UK College of Nursing, but even then, she still had doubts. “I really thought I chose the wrong major,” Duncan said. “I thought, maybe this isn’t what I want to do.”

Emily Jordan, a junior honors student at the University of Kentucky College of Nursing, and her father, Jonathan W. Jordan, celebrate the forgotten heroes of the past in a new book about woman war leaders. Their new book, The War Queens, tells the story of the wartime tactics of some of the most powerful female leaders in history. The father-daughter duo reveal in their new book the extraordinary power and potential of women who walked through war’s kiln and emerged from the other side.
