Leigh Anne Koonmen highlighted as Jonas Scholar

Leigh Anne Koonmen, RN, BSN and UK College of Nursing PhD candidate, was recently named and highlighted as a Jonas Scholar by Jonas Philanthropies for her leadership in research on reducing type 2 diabetes. 

UK students join KNA to advocate for nurses, patients in Frankfort

  FRANKFORT, Ky. (Feb. 4, 2020) -- University of Kentucky College of Nursing students and faculty joined the Kentucky Nurses Association for 2020 Kentucky Nurses Day at the Capitol.   Nurses Day at the Capitol marked a true day of advocacy, where KNA members, nurses and others met with legislators from across the Commonwealth to share their concerns and ideas about issues that impact nurses, their families, colleagues and patients.  

BSN Student on 2019 Homecoming Court

  College of Nursing senior BSN student Minji Kim was recently recognized on Homecoming Court at the UK vs. Arkansas football game. Kim is from Seoul, South Korea, and is majoring in nursing and minoring in psychology. She was nominated by the Undergraduate Nursing Activities and Advisory Council. 

PhD Student Ifeanyi Madujbeya Shares His Story

PhD student Ifeanyi Madujbeya, BSN, RN, was recently featured Education and Career News for their campaign focused on empowering our nurses. Why did you choose to pursue your Ph.D.? My desire to pursue a Ph.D. in nursing emanated from a research project I worked on for improving health outcomes in patients with heart failure. 

Nursing Students Saving Lives: Mary Grace Becker

  On September 22, 2018, healthy, 60-year-old Frank Spragens was running near UK. Four miles in, Spragens had no pain or shortness of breath when he collapsed. A family passing by stopped to help. Down the street, UK nursing student Mary Grace Becker was on her friend’s porch. Without hesitation, she sprinted to the scene. When Becker arrived, Spragens was purple. Instinct and training kicked in. She took charge. A woman was already performing CPR, but Becker immediately recognized the compressions were too slow and confidently took over.

DNP Student Receives Evelyn J. Barclay Scholarship from Nurses Educational Funds, Inc.

Corinna Hughes, BSN, RN, DNP student at the University of Kentucky College of Nursing, recently received the Evelyn J. Barclay Scholarship from Nurses Educational Funds, Inc. This scholarship is goven to a doctoral application in nursing education or research.

Undergraduate Nursing Student Presents Research at TraumaCon

  Undergraduate nursing student Sophie Post presented "Don’t get Back in the Saddle: An Evaluation of Horse-related Head Injuries in the Emergency Department" at this year's TraumaCon in Lexington, Kentucky. TraumaCon is a three-day national conference for nurses involved in the care of trauma patients and the management of trauma programs and trauma systems. View photos here. 

Undergraduate Student Represents UK College of Nursing for APNA

UK College of Nursing undergraduate student Sarret Seng was recently featured in a newsletter from the American Psychiatric Nurses Association.  She was also recently named one of thirty American Psychiatric Nurses Association (APNA) Board of Directors Student Scholars.

Nursing Student Ends up in Foreigner Video Through Shriners Hospital
