Lovoria B. Williams, PhD, FNP-BC, FAANP

Dr. Lovoria B. Williams is a Regular Title Series, associate professor in the College of Nursing.  She received a PhD in nursing from Georgia Regents University (now Augusta University).  Dr. Williams’ dissertation examined diabetes predictors among African-Americans in faith-based settings.  She continues to focus her research agenda on the achievement of health equity among racial/ethnic minorities and medically-underserved populations through community based participatory research methods.  Her research targets diabetes prevention, cardiovascular disease reduction, early detection of lung cancer and tobacco control.  She is nationally-recognized for her collaborative research with Community Health Workers in implementing culturally-adapted interventions among African American churches and other community settings.

Dr. Williams’s research has received funding from the Georgia Department of Public Health, National Institutes of Health, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the Bristol-Myers Squibb Foundation. She has authored numerous peer-reviewed journals, presented nationally and internationally and served as a consultant regarding the implementation of culturally-adapted diabetes prevention programs.   Clinically, Dr. Williams is a family nurse practitioner and a trained tobacco treatment specialist.  Her clinical practice focuses on the development of tobacco treatment protocols for individuals diagnosed with severe mental illness.

She is the recipient of distinguished honors and awards such as Fellow of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, Phi Kappa Phi, Excellence in Research and Outstanding Published Writing. She is a member of multiple professional organizations such as the National Black Nurses Association and the Southern Nursing Research Society (SNRS) where she serves on the Board of Directors.

Dr. Williams has extensive nursing graduate teaching experiences. She has developed and taught clinical courses for Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) programs to include evidenced based practice and qualitative methods.  She has mentored numerous DNP and PhD student projects and dissertations, as well as junior scientists.
