Nursing Peer Mentors in Interprofessional Healthcare Residential College Welcome Students Back to Campus

College of Nursing Academic Advisor Jennifer Sherwood, MA, welcomes new students to campus with Maya Fitzpatrick and Yuri Maisel (Airforce ROTC), both second year pre-nursing students, and Ava Assef and Kayla Anderson, all peer mentors for the Interprofessional Healthcare Residential College (IHRC) Living Learning Program (LLP) at the University of Kentucky. 

The Interprofessional Healthcare Residential College (IHRC) is a high-impact living-learning program (LLP) designed for undergraduate students who have a passion for healthcare and interdisciplinary learning.  Pedagogically, the IHRC is designed to enhance student retention, belonging, and learning by bridging the gap between formal in-class learning and out-of-class learning.  To this end, students live together in the Woodland Glen 5 Residence Hall, enroll in connected coursework, and participate in a variety of co-curricular activities, including guided discussions with faculty and community service. Participants are thus immersed in a community of scholars that includes faculty, staff, as well as a strong cohort of “live-in” peer mentors, all of whom are dedicated to interprofessional healthcare and student success.
