The University of Kentucky College of Nursing has been named a 2020 Center of Excellence by the National League of Nursing—a prestigious designation awarded to nursing programs, teaching hospitals and clinical sites across the country for high standards in educational excellence and visionary leadership.

UK’s College of Nursing received the NLN COE designation for their efforts in creating a workplace environment that promotes the academic progression of nurses.  The CON is the first college and one of only six institutions to receive the NLN COE designation in the category of Promoting Academic Progression of Nurses.

“This recognition is a reflection of our college’s commitment to advancing nursing practice and leadership through first-rate education and the support of an outstanding team of faculty and staff,” said Janie Heath, Dean and Warwick Professor of Nursing at the UK College of Nursing.  “We are honored to receive this distinguished designation from the NLN and proud to be included as one of the best-of-the-best nursing institutions in the country.”

NLN CEO Beverly Malone, PhD, RN, FAAN, said, “NLN Centers of Excellence help raise the bar for all nursing programs by role modeling visionary leadership and environments of inclusive excellence. These environments help nurture the next generation of a strong and diverse nursing workforce to advance the health of the nation and the global community.”

The NLN Center of Excellence in Nursing Education designation is designed for schools of nursing and health care organizations that have achieved a level of excellence in a specific area. Through public recognition and distinction, the program acknowledges the outstanding innovations, commitment, and sustainability of excellence these organizations convey.

The NLN will formally recognize all of this year’s COE designees at its 2020 NLN Education Summit, to be held virtually Sept. 23 – 25.
