A message from UK Academic Leaders on Breonna Taylor case

The below message was sent to out to the University of Kentucky staff, faculty, and students on behalf of the university's academic leaders, including College of Nursing Dean Janie Heath   UK President Capilouto also sent out a message earlier today.   Dear Members of the UK Community: Our thoughts are with the family, friends and community members directly affected by this case. We know that coping in such a public way adds layers to already deep grief.

Dr. Ty Borders receives UI College of Public Health 2020 Outstanding Alumni Award

Dr. Ty Borders, University of Kentucky College of Nursing professor and director of the Rural and Underserved Health Research Center, was recently named by the University of Iowa College of Public Health as one of their 2020 Outstanding Alumni.   Dr. Borders received a Master of Arts degree in hospital and health administration in 1995, a Doctor of Philosophy degree in hospital and health administration in 1999, and a Master of Science degree in epidemiology in 2001, all from the University of Iowa College of Public Health.

UK CON Researcher Partners with Churches to Address COVID-19, Health Disparities

A lack of access to proper care can heavily impact a community’s health. Recent studies have shed light on an area’s socioeconomic status being one of the most impactful social determinants of health in both urban and rural communities throughout Kentucky. Whether looking at the rural Appalachian regions of the Commonwealth, or the outskirts of a metropolitan city such as Lexington, its community members share a commonality; prevalent health-related disparities.

Couple’s Generosity Continues During COVID-19 Pandemic

Most choose to attend college to earn an education — hoping they will gain knowledge to prepare them for the pursuit of a career. But the path to a degree can unlock more than job opportunities. Just ask Chris Gorman. It was fall of 1961, and the University of Kentucky freshman was eager to embark on his six-year plan — a fast-track strategy that would allow him to earn both a bachelor’s degree and a law degree by the age of 24.

'Fabulous 5' honored by College of Nursing

With deep gratitude and appreciation for leading change, the University of Kentucky College of Nursing is proud to honor the first African American graduates in each of its nursing degree programs.  These “Fabulous 5” graduates are trailblazers at the College of Nursing—each going on to excel and affect change in nursing and healthcare.  In the fight for equity and racial justice, the Fab 5 are an inspiration for future generations of all students of color.

Lynn Kelso receives UKHC-UKCON Academic-Clinical Engagement Award

  As part of UK HealthCare's annual nursing awards, the University of Kentucky College of Nursing's Lynn Kelso, MSN, APRN, FCCM, FAANP, was awarded the 2020 UKHC-UKCON Academic-Clinical Engagement Award.  The award is given each year to a nurse who demonstrates the impact of providing services that promote the UK HealthCare and UK College of Nursing mission of an authentic and integrated academic-clinical partnership.

  The University of Kentucky College of Nursing has been named a 2020 Center of Excellence by the National League of Nursing—a prestigious designation awarded to nursing programs, teaching hospitals and clinical sites across the country for high standards in educational excellence and visionary leadership.
