College of Nursing Faculty Member Awarded Outstanding Alumnus Award

Associate Professor Karen Butler, DNP, MSN, RN, received the Outstanding Alumnus Award from the College of Nursing Alumni Association at the College’s homecoming brunch on Fri., Oct. 2. The annual Outstanding Alumni Award is presented to an individual who holds an undergraduate or graduate degree from the UK College of Nursing and who exemplifies a commitment to support the college and the profession of nursing. Butler was nominated by Jessica Wilson, PhD, APRN, assistant professor and RN-BSN coordinator.

UKCON Professor Debra Moser Honored for Contributions to Self-Care Research

  University of Kentucky College of Nursing professor Debra Moser was chosen as the recipient of the 2015 President’s Award from the Friends of the National Institute of Nursing Research (FNINR).

UK Lyman T. Johnson Constituency Group Awards Nursing Students Torch of Excellence and Torch Bearer Awards

The University of Kentucky Lyman T. Johnson Constituency Group awarded College of Nursing PhD student Kacy Allen-Bryant and undergraduate student Keelie Dyson the Torch of Excellence and Torch Bearer Awards Fri., Oct. 2 at 6 p.m. during the 25th Annual Homecoming Awards Celebration. The reception commemorated the 66th year of an African American presence on UK’s campus and took pace at the UK Alumni House.

UK College of Nursing Stands with University of South Carolina During Severe Flooding

  The University of South Carolina has undergone tremendous stress as unprecedented rain has caused rising water to sweep through surrounding neighborhoods and wash out roads and bridges, leaving many in their community without homes and basic needs and essentials. While relief efforts have begun in Columbia, destruction continues further downstream. Recovery will take time and effort, and UK’s College of Nursing wants to help. To our friends at USC, we stand with you during this difficult time. Stay strong and we will get through this.

UK Nursing Student's Board Game Prompts Patients to Choose Heart-Healthy Foods

By Elizabeth Adams When University of Kentucky College of Nursing student Sooksai Kaewbua brings her heart-healthy board game to Eastern State Hospital, the first obstacle is getting patients to participate. Using the facility’s intercom, she and fellow nursing staff members in the geriatric unit recruit the first few players to get the game rolling.

College of Nursing Awarded Highest Accreditation as Provider of Continuing Education

University of Kentucky, College of Nursing is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. The accreditation has been granted with distinction, the highest recognition awarded by the ANCC, and will expire March 31, 2020.

Governor Steve Beshear Reappoints College of Nursing Faculty Member to Kynect Advisory Board

Governor Steve Beshear reappointed College of Nursing Assistant Professor Kathy Wheeler, PhD, RN, APRN, FAANP, to the Kynect Advisory Board on September 25. In this role Wheeler will represent health care providers in counsel to the Kynect initiative, which assists the state in pursuing the development of a state-based health care system.
