Student Leaders Join Faculty for KNA Advocacy Day

  On Feb. 6, undergraduate student leaders joined faculty members Drs. Hartley Feld, Julie Ossege, Ellen Hahn and Julie Marfell for the Kentucky Nurses Association (KNA) Advocacy Day in Frankfort. The day started with a talk by KNA lobbyist Dr. Sheila Schuster, followed by remarks from Delanor Mason, KNA Executive Director and KNA President Dr. Ruth Carrico.

College of Nursing Celebrates MLK Day at 25th Annual Lexington Unity Breakfast

  The UK College of Nursing was proud to commemorate the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and his ideals for peace and unity, at the 25th annual Lexington Unity Breakfast on January 21, 2019. Presented in Lexington, Kentucky, by Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Alpha Beta Lambda Chapter Education Foundation.

College of Nursing Attends Annual Feast on Equality

  Faculty and students from the University of Kentucky College of Nursing attended the annual Feast on Equality at the Gatton Student Center on Friday, December 7.  This dinner and social event seeks to build support, increase community awareness and raise needed money that will allow LGBT organizations to grow and expand its mission of assisting at-risk LGBT youth. Over 500 attendees celebrated the university's inclusivity efforts and raised nearly $100 thousand for LGBTQ resources.

National Nurse Practitioner Week 2018

The role of the nurse practitioner (NP) will be showcased November 11–17, 2018, as NPs across the country celebrate more than 50 years of practice during National NP Week. In the United States, this distinguished group of health care professionals number approximately 248,000 strong, with an additional 23,000 NP students graduating each year.

Beyond Birth Program Moves to New Location, Expands Services for Mothers with Opioid Addiction

  Bethany Wilson's doctors told her family it was time to say goodbye. In 2014, after three years of active addiction and a heart valve replacement to treat endocarditis, there was nothing more they could do. "I had endocarditis, septicemia, liver and kidney failure and triple pneumonia," said Wilson. "I had suffered a stroke, I was in septic shock and I had suffered multiple seizures."

UK College of Nursing Attends 2018 FNINR Gala

  The University of Kentucky College of Nursing attended the 2018 NightinGala to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Friends of the National Institute of Nursing Research.  FNINR’s MISSION is to provide resources to support nursing research and advance the mission of the NINR. The Friends seek to support research-based nursing practice by educating nursing professionals and the public about the advances made through nursing research and its benefits to patients, families, the community and the delivery of health care.

Students Walk for Mental Health

  On October 20, 96 students from NUR 401 participated in the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Walk at Whitaker Bank Ballpark. NAMI is the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness. Read more on NAMI here. 

Nursing Research Papers Day 2018

  UK HealthCare and the UK College of Nursing showcased the work of nurses and students at the 28th annual Nursing Research Papers Day at Hyatt Regency Lexington on Friday, October 12.  This year, Christopher Lee, PhD, RN, FAHA, FAAN, FHFSA, associate dean of Research and professor at Boston College's Connell School of Nursing, presented "Bio-Behavioral Research in Heart Failure" as the keynote. College of Nursing Celebrates Scholarship Donors at Annual Scholarship Brunch

  The College of Nursing celebrated and honored its scholarship donors at its annual Scholarship Brunch on Saturday, September 8, 2018 at the Hyatt Regency Lexington. "We deeply thank all donors for their continuous support of our students, the College and nursing as a profession," says Janie Heath, PhD, APRN, FAAN, FNAP, FAANP, dean and Warwick Professor of Nursing. "It is powerful to see our students meeting with their donors to thank them for their important contributions."

College of Nursing Welcomes Back Students for 2018-19 Academic Year
