UK agriculture and nurse researchers’ Farmers’ Dinner Theater grows safety, mental health awareness in rural Kentucky

  Rural young Kentuckians will have the opportunity to explore their artistic skills while learning about farm safety and mental health through Farmers’ Dinner Theater, a partnership between the University of Kentucky College Nursing and the UK College of Agriculture, Food and Environment.

In May 2020, the University of Kentucky College of Nursing students, staff and faculty were all working from home. UK HealthCare had constructed a 400-bed field hospital to prepare for a potential surge in COVID-19 patients.  And nurses and health care workers across the world were on the frontlines battling a pandemic the likes of which most of us had never seen.

RUHRC celebrates nearly 10,000 publication downloads

  LEXINGTON, Ky. (March 23, 2021) -- This month the Rural & Underserved Health Research Center (RUHRC) celebrates nearly 10,000 all-time downloads of their policy briefs since first publishing in October 2017.   RUHRC's research addresses a variety of public health and health care issues affecting rural communities—including primary care, substance use and treatment, and mental health treatment.  Their publications have been downloaded across the country and the globe.

  Faculty and students from the University of Kentucky Colleges of Nursing and Education were featured panelists during Less Cancer's National Cancer Prevention Workshop, to discuss the increased use of e-cigarettes among young people, the short and long-term effects of vaping and efforts to curb its popularity.  

Newly-renewed scholarship fund honors legacy of Dr. Juanita Fleming

  The UK College of Nursing is proud to announce the renewal of a scholarship fund in honor of Dr. Juanita Fleming, the college's first African-American faculty member.   UK CON Dean Janie Heath joined Marsha Hughes-Rease, the UK CON's first African-American BSN graduate, to announce the scholarship fund's renewal during the college's virtual 2020 Celebration of Alumni Stars event Sept. 10.

  The University of Kentucky College of Nursing has been named a 2020 Center of Excellence by the National League of Nursing—a prestigious designation awarded to nursing programs, teaching hospitals and clinical sites across the country for high standards in educational excellence and visionary leadership.
