Jordan Brown and Omar Brown Receive 2024 Lyman T. Johnson Awards

Congratulations to College of Nursing senior Jordan Brown and Class of 2024 alum Omar Brown on receiving 2024 Lyman T. Johnson awards! Jordan received the Torch Bearer award and Omar received the Torch of Excellence award. They were honored and presented the awards - along with 33 other award winners from colleges across the University of Kentucky - at a ceremony during the 2024 Homecoming Week.

Today, we shine the spotlight on Tara Grana, BSN, RN. She not only excelled in our program but has since embarked on a journey of inspiring and guiding the next generation of nurses. As an advisor for RN to BSN students here at the College of Nursing, Tara brings a wealth of knowledge, experience, and passion to the table. She provides guidance for those navigating the transition from registered nurse to Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Here's what we learned during our talk with Tara Grana:

'Behind the Blue': UK Nursing alum discusses military nursing career

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Jan. 22, 2024) — Col. Wendy Woodall is no stranger to spending time in new locations. Growing up in a U.S. military family and living in a variety of locations during her childhood, she calls herself a native of Princeton, Kentucky, where her father is from.

Alumni Spotlight: Rebekah Dailey

This week, we are excited to highlight UK College of Nursing alumna Rebekah Dailey, DNP, RN, NEA-BC, LSS-GB. She is currently a Policy Fellow for Stanford Byers Biodesign Program in Stanford, California.    Dr. Dailey is a two-time UK graduate. She earned her Bachelor of Science in 2012 and Doctorate in Nursing Practice in 2017 with a specialization in Population and Organizational Systems Leadership.    Here's what we learned during our talk with Dr. Dailey:

Alumni Spotlight: Zim Okoli

We look forward to sharing our latest Alumni Spotlight, which features Dr. Chizimuzo (Zim) Okoli, Professor, PhD, MPH, APRN, PMHNP-BC, NCTTP FAAN!   Dr. Okoli received his undergraduate degrees in nursing and philosophy from the University of Kentucky College of Nursing. He subsequently earned a Master of Science in Nursing (2002), a Master of Science in Public Health (2005), and a Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing (2005), all from UK.

Dr. Corrina Hughes, DNP, FNP-C, is a two-time UK College of Nursing graduate. She completed the Traditional BSN Program in 2015 and the Doctor of Nursing Practice Program in 2020. Alumni Spotlight: Kent Brouwer

Dr. Kent Brouwer, DNP, APRN, AGACNP-BC, is a two-time UK College of Nursing graduate. He completed the Accelerated BSN Program in 2018 and later graduated from the DNP Program in 2022.  He is a lecturer for the College of Nursing, an acute care nurse practitioner at Baptist Health Lexington, and a staff RN at UK Healthcare's Cardiovascular PCU.    What do you find most rewarding about your work?

In the Spotlight: Deborah Adams, MSN, BSN, RN

Since she was a girl, there was one person whom Deborah Adams could always count on for support and guidance. That person was her aunt, Juanita Fleming, PhD, MSN, RN, FAAN, an American Academy of Nursing Living Legend and the first African American professor at the UK College of Nursing.
