Step 1: Apply to UK for admission as a Pre-Nursing Major
Complete your UK application online and list Pre-Nursing as your major, if you meet the following minimum requirements:
- 3.4 or higher unweighted high school grade point average (GPA) on a 4.0 scale (GPAs on different scales are converted to a 4.0 scale)
- Ability to place into CHE 103 by the start of the spring semester
Please note:
- Admission to UK does not guarantee admission as a Pre-Nursing Major.
- High school seniors are not admitted directly to the Nursing Major, regardless of the amount or nature of dual enrollment, AP, or IB credits earned.
During your first year at UK you must complete the following pre-requisite courses and some of the UK Core requirements to prepare for application to the major:
- ANA 109 & 110
- BIO 103
- CHE 103
- CIS/WRD 110
- CIS/WRD 111 (OR CIS/WRD 112)
- PSY 100 or 223
Apply to UK as Pre-Nursing Major
Step 2: Apply to UK’s Professional Nursing Program
The deadline to apply to the College of Nursing is March 1 for admission to the following academic year. All prerequisite courses must be completed by the end of the spring semester, in which you apply for admission.
- The GPA used for admission includes all college credits taken as a high school or college student.
- You must have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA and a 3.0 minimum science GPA to be considered.
- Only the best science grades are considered if courses are repeated
- You will also participate in an interview that is part of the basis for admission.
- The TOEFL, administered online, is required of all applicants for whom English is not their native language. Minimum scores accepted are: Cumulative – 90; Speaking – 26; Listening – 22; Writing – 20; Reading – 22. You must submit this TOEFL score directly to the College of Nursing
Students will be notified of admission status in early June.
- Approximately 360 seats are available for sophomore admission.
- Half will begin in the Fall semester; half will begin in the Spring semester.
