Associate Professor Gia Mudd-Martin, PhD, MPH, RN, was inducted as a Fellow of the American Heart Association (FAHA) during the annual American Heart Association Scientific Sessions in Anaheim, California. 

Dr. Mudd-Martin was selected as a FAHA by the American Heart Association Cardiovascular and Stroke Nursing (CVSN) Council. As stated by the Council, "The CVSN Council reserves Fellowship for members who have made meritorious contributions to cardiovascular and stroke nursing through practice, research and/or education; and who have actively supported the AHA/ASA through volunteer service."

Dr. Mudd-Martin received her undergraduate degree in nursing from the University of Louisville, and master's degrees in nursing and in public health as well as her PhD in nursing from the University of Texas Health Science Center – Houston. The focus of her dissertation research was the development of a Spanish-language instrument to measure genetic knowledge. Dr. Martin teaches public health nursing. Her areas of research interest include the application of genetic and genomic advances in the prevention of Type II diabetes and cardiovascular disease; the public health impact of genetic/genomic advances on vulnerable populations; and translational research in genomics.

The American Heart Association is the nation’s oldest and largest voluntary organization dedicated to fighting heart disease and stroke.
