Students and families gathered on Saturday, September 12 at the Hyatt Regency for the College of Nursing Scholarship Brunch to celebrate the academic successes of and scholarships for several nursing students.

One such student, Paige L. Williams, received the Diane Evans Payne Nursing Scholarship.

“It is because of kind, generous people like you that my generation gets to continue to learn about one of the most challenging and rewarding careers that UK has to offer,” said Williams. “Thank you very much!”

Margaret A. Plymale, a graduate student, was awarded the Karen Hall Sexton Scholarship.

“I always dreamed of pursuing a doctoral degree. With the UK DNP program I knew it was exactly what I wanted. I am humbled to receive a scholarship with the name of such a great nurse and leader,” said Plymale.

Dr. Janie Heath, dean of the College of Nursing and Warwick Professor of Nursing, as well as Dr. Tim Tracy, Provost of the University of Kentucky, opened the brunch and welcomed those in attendance.

“I know I can speak for the entire College when I say how proud I am of our hardworking students,” said Dean Heath. “I’m excited to see what the future holds for these young nursing professionals.”

The College of Nursing congratulated each recipient on their award.

"We would not be such a prestigious institution if not for our inspired faculty and motivated students, and generous donors who continue to be the key to our ability to educate the next generation of nurse leaders,” said Aimeé Baston, alumni and development director for the College of Nursing.
