Guest editors Ellen J. Hahn, PhD, RN, FAAN, and Karen M. Butler, DNP, RN, from the University of Kentucky College of Nursing's BREATHE have assembled a special issue for Western Journal of Nursing Research on topics concerning Tobacco and Social Justice.

The articles were contributed by authors with expertise in tobacco use disparities, and they have implications for innovations in nursing practice or policy development, and future research to reduce tobacco use disparities and promote social justice. The studies in this issue demonstrate that we need innovative, high-intensity, multidimensional approaches to reach and intervene with populations disproportionately affected by tobacco use. We also need public health strategies, research, and policy development to counter the effects of tobacco industry marketing and promotions targeting vulnerable populations like older smokers.

Not only did Drs. Hahn and Butler edit this journal - faculty and student colleagues also contributed to it, including Melinda Ickes, Amanda Wiggins, Mary Kay Rayens, Zim Okoli, Sarret Seng (student), Lovoria Williams, Amanda Fallin-Bennett, Holly Dye, Kathy Rademacher and Kristin Ashford.
