Second Degree Student Named One of Thirty American Psychiatric Nurses Association Board of Directors Student Scholars
Sarret Seng, second degree nursing student, was recently named one of thirty American Psychiatric Nurses Association (APNA) Board of Directors Student Scholars.
This scholarship includes registration, travel and lodging expenses to attend the APNA 32nd Annual Conference, October 24-27, 2018 at the Greater Columbus Convention Center in Columbus, Ohio. In addition, the recipients will receive one year complimentary membership in APNA.
Born and raised in Long Beach, CA, Mrs. Seng came to Lexington and is currently in University of Kentucky’s Second-Career BSN program. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from California State University of Long Beach where she was the Outstanding Graduate for the College of Liberal Arts. Her interest in mental health nursing began with an interest in neuroscience, particularly in the physiology underlying neurological diseases and disorders.
Through clinical and research internships in addiction and psychiatric disorders, she discovered a passion for research that serves as a foundation for developing evidence-based treatments; she ultimately plans to become a mental-health nurse practitioner so that she may both provide compassionate care directly to patients and to contribute towards generating new knowledge in the field.
The APNA Annual Conference delivers 100+ varied sessions and networking opportunities to the 1600+ psychiatric-mental health RNs and APRNs who attend each year. Attendees have the opportunity to earn 29.25 CNE contact hours onsite and an additional 95+ contact hours online.
The APNA was founded in 1986. In the ensuing years, APNA has grown to be the largest professional membership organization committed to the specialty practice of psychiatric-mental health (PMH) nursing and wellness promotion, prevention of mental health problems, and the care and treatment of persons with psychiatric disorders.
