UK Nursing's Dr. Misook Chung receives Global Korean Nursing Foundation distinguished mentorship award
Congratulations to the University of Kentucky College of Nursing's Misook Chung PhD, RN, FAHA, FAAN for receiving the 2021 Global Korean Nursing Foundation's (DHKF)-USA Duck Hee Kang Mentor award.
The DHKF Distinguished Mentor Award is an award to recognize an outstanding Korean Nursing faculty member and/or clinical practitioner who has made a significant contribution to mentoring for the next generation of nurses. This award is named in honor and memory of Duck-Hee Kang, PhD, RN, FAAN, President Emerita of GKNF-USA, who made indelible contributions to the mission of the Global Korean Nursing Foundation (GKNF)-USA through her generous mentoring of many young nurse scholars. Dr. Chung met and was mentored herself by Dr. Kang.
Dr. Chung is a tenured professor at the UK College of Nursing and is the co-director of the College's Research and Interventions for Cardiovascular Health (RICH) Heart research program. Dr. Chung has been studying patients with heart failure and family caregivers since 2002 and is an internationally recognized expert on dyadic research in cardiovascular and stroke patient and caregiver dyads. Her research program covers a broad range of factors affecting outcomes such as adherence behaviors (e.g., low sodium diet and medication), psychological distress (e.g., depression and anxiety), and social support in both dyad members. She has served as the Primary Investigator or Co-Primary Investigator on nearly 15 million dollars of extramurally-sponsored research, including two National Institute of Health R01 funding grants.
The Global Korean Nursing Foundation (GKNF) aims to support capacity building of Korean nurses for advancing nursing science, clinical practice, and policy; and facilitate networking of Korean nurses worldwide for broadening knowledge exchange with global leaders.
