Dr. Karen Butler Inducted as Fellow into American Academy of Nursing

Karen Butler, DNP, MSN, RN, FAAN, professor, was inducted as a Fellow into the American Academy of Nursing (AAN) at the annual AAN conference, Oct. 24-26, in Washington, DC. The American Academy of Nursing's approximately 2,400 fellows are nursing leaders in education, management, practice and research. Fellows represent association executives; university presidents, chancellors and deans; elected officials; state and federal political appointees; hospital chief executives and vice presidents for nursing; nurse consultants; and researchers and entrepreneurs.

Assistant Professor Receives 2019 FNINR Protégé Award

Amanda Fallin Bennett, PhD, RN, assistant professor, received the 2019 Protégé Award from the Friends of the National Institute of Nursing Research (FNINR) at its annual NightinGala on Wednesday, Oct. 23, in Washington, D.C.

Perspectives in Psychiatric Care, Edited by Evelyn Parrish, Inducted into Nursing Journal Hall of Fame

Evelyn Parrish, PhD, PMHNP-BC, FAANP, associate professor and director of Accreditation & Strategic Outcomes for the University of Kentucky College of Nursing, was recognized by the International Academy of Nursing Editors (INANE) for being the editor of Perspectives in Psychiatric Care - one of seven journals inducted into the Nursing Journal Hall of Fame. 

CON Faculty Members Collaborate on Special Issue for Western Journal of Nursing Research

Guest editors Ellen J. Hahn, PhD, RN, FAAN, and Karen M. Butler, DNP, RN, from the University of Kentucky College of Nursing's BREATHE have assembled a special issue for Western Journal of Nursing Research on topics concerning Tobacco and Social Justice.

Dr. Jean Edward Selected in Inaugural Fellowship Program of SONSIEL

Jean Edward, PhD, RN, CHPE, assistant professor, was selected to be in the inaugural fellowship program of the Society of Nurse Scientists, Innovators, Entrepreneurs & Leaders (SONSIEL). She will be joining a very distinguished group of nurses who share the mission to magnify, network and elevate the expertise of nurse innovators as transformation agents that contribute to the reform of health care. 

Dr. Lovoria Williams Named Nurse Researcher of the Year by National Black Nurses Association

Lovoria Williams, PhD, FNP-BC, FAANP, was named Nurse Researcher of the Year by the National Black Nurses Association at the 47th Annual Conference in New Orleans on Saturday, July 27. The award represents her work to deliver community-based interventions that reduce health disparities among minority and medically-underserved populations by increasing tobacco cessation and cancer screening behaviors and reducing obesity and diabetes.

Dr. Ana Maria Linares: Changing the Landscape of Maternal-Child Health

Originally a midwife from Chile, Ana Maria Linares, DNS, RN, IBCLC, associate professor, is a Fulbright Scholar who is changing the landscape of maternal-child health by developing nursing interventions to increase breastfeeding rates. In this country alone, the rate of exclusive breastfeeding is 25 percent, an incredibly low number by global standards. Dr. Linares’ work, which focuses particularly on Hispanic women, brings lifetime health benefits to children and their mothers. In one study, she increased exclusive breastfeeding by 50 percent.

Dr. Debra Moser Presents PCORI Study to Senators on Capitol Hill

Debra Moser, PhD, RN, FAHA, FAAN, professor, assistant dean of PhD Program & Scholarly Affairs & Linda C. Gill Endowed Chair of Nursing, presented her PCORI study, “Reducing Health Disparities in Appalachians with Multiple Cardiovascular Disease Risk Factors”, to Maryland Senator Chris Van Hollen and other panelists, including the president of the American Heart Association, on Capitol Hill on Wednesday, June 26.
