College Celebrates 100% NCLEX Pass Rate for May 2018 Class

  The College of Nursing was proud to celebrate the class of May 2018's 100% NCLEX pass rate on Friday, February 1.  In 2018, the national pass rate was only 88.29 percent. The National Council of State Boards of Nursing Annual Report for 2018 concluded that the average minutes to take the NCLEX throughout the country was 127, while the average at UK was 95. The average number of questions to take the NCLEX throughout the country was 110, while the average at UK was 80.

Nursing Student Saves UK Police Officer's Life

University of Kentucky Police Officer Alan Saylor is alive today thanks to the quick action of UK Gatton Student Center employees. Three full-time employees and a part-time student employee administered aid and another called 911 following Saylor's collapse Thursday morning in the Student Center where his office is located.

College of Nursing Student Places in University Research Competition

Last week, University of Kentucky graduate and undergraduate students competed in the final rounds of the 5-Minute Fast Track Research Competition and the 3-Minute Thesis Competition (3MT). While two final winners prevailed, research also came out ahead. Natalie Hawes, a senior BSN student, placed third in the 3-Minute Thesis Competition.

UK Lyman T. Johnson Constituency Group Awards Nursing Students Torch of Excellence and Torch Bearer Awards

The University of Kentucky Lyman T. Johnson Constituency Group awarded College of Nursing MSN graduate Alalia Mack and undergraduate student Nana Ntodi the Torch of Excellence and Torch Bearer Awards Fri., Oct. 19 during the 26th Annual Homecoming Awards Celebration. The reception commemorated the 67th year of an African American presence on UK’s campus.

UK Nursing Student Promotes Ghanaian Culture and Student Mentorship at Ms. Ghana USA Competition

  Photo by Mark Cornelison When College of Nursing student Nana Ntodi was looking for a platform and resources to launch a student mentorship platform in her native Ghana, she found the perfect opportunity in the Ms. Ghana USA pageant competition.  "This was my first pageant - I wanted to do it because it would provide me with the appropriate resources to implement my project, and it combined my Ghanainan and American cultures."

Second Degree Student Named One of Thirty American Psychiatric Nurses Association Board of Directors Student Scholars

  Sarret Seng, second degree nursing student, was recently named one of thirty American Psychiatric Nurses Association (APNA) Board of Directors Student Scholars.  This scholarship includes registration, travel and lodging expenses to attend the APNA 32nd Annual Conference, October 24-27, 2018 at the Greater Columbus Convention Center in Columbus, Ohio. In addition, the recipients will receive one year complimentary membership in APNA.

UK CON Welcomes Nursing Student from British University in Egypt

  The University of Kentucky College of Nursing gladly welcomes Israa Desokey Mansour, a second year nursing student from the British University in Egypt. During her internship at UK, she will learn about nursing in the U.S. from educational, practice and research perspectives. This will involve interacting with nursing students, nurse practitioners and nurse scientists as well as learning about tobacco use and treatment as an important health topic in Kentucky. Welcome, Israa!
