On Wednesday, April 25, Eastern State Hospital hosted the first ever Research and Practice Initiatives Day, where more than 86 attendees heard from distinguished leaders in the fields of nursing, psychology, pharmacy and social work.

Carrie Rudzik, BS, Eastern State Hospital Chief Administrative Officer, and Janie Heath, PhD, APRN-BC, FAAN, FAANP, FNAP, dean and Warwick Professor of Nursing, welcomed the guests, followed by several keynote speakers including Seth Himelhock, MD, MPH, chair of the Department of Psychiatry for the UK College of Medicine, and David Susman, PhD, assistant professor of psychology and psychiatry at UK. 

Chizimuzo "Zim" Okoli, PhD, MPH, MSN, RN, CCTS, associate professor, was also honored with the Eastern State Hospital Research Award for his research presentation titled "Predictors of Intentions to Deliver and Engage in Tobacco Treatment at Eastern State Hospital."
