UK College of Nursing commemorates Juneteenth 2021

“We recognize June 19, Juneteenth, as a holiday to serve as a historical reminder of the vestiges of oppression, racism and injustice that are still a very real and present experience for black people in America and worldwide.  Juneteenth commemorates the official end of slavery in the United States.  Even though the Emancipation Proclamation was signed on January 1, 1863, African Americans were not officially freed until two years later – June 19, 1865 –which we recognize today as Juneteenth.

  In an effort to raise awareness about nurses' mental health and help curb the rate of nurse suicide, Governor Andy Beshear has declared May as Nurse Suicide Prevention Month in Kentucky.

April 21 "One Day for UK" event is chance to give back to nurses

  DONATE HERE Nurses are well-known for their steadfast, humble commitment to the service and care of others.  Now is the chance for you to say thank you and give back to these everyday heroes.  For the University of Kentucky College of Nursing’s third annual “One Day for UK” giving event, we are asking for you to support the College’s “CPR” (Cultivating Practices for Resiliency) Gift Fund. This year's One Day for UK is Wednesday, April 21.  

Mental Health Resilience: How one student's letter sparked university-wide change in addressing mental health

Cara Braido, BSN 2019 A cascade of personal events had College of Nursing student Cara Braido feeling emotionally raw in her final term. In a span of a few months, her parents decided to divorce and a sibling was physically assaulted. These events hit Braido while she was still recovering from the suicide attempt of another sibling a few years earlier.

Delta Psi's 40th Anniversary Celebration

Students Reverse Trick-or-Treat at Kentucky Children's Hospital

  University of Kentucky College of Nursing students participated in reverse trick-or-treat at Kentucky Children's Hospital on Thursday, October 31, 2019.  Pictured above: Larisa Caudill, Kellie Irmick, Brittany Beveridge, Meredith Sullivan, Jenna Lawson, Danielle Satler, Brianna Dunbar, and Minji Kim (middle front). Celebrating 50 Years of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing

The College of Nursing celebrated the 50th anniversary of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing last week in Washington, D.C. Since 1969, AACN has worked tirelessly to maintain its role as the leading catalyst for excellence and innovation in nursing education, research, and practice. Over the past five decades, we have expanded our representation from 121 member organizations to 825 member schools of nursing at public and private universities nationwide, representing 530,000 students and 45,000 faculty members—a remarkable development.
