Meet Student Ambassador Rachel Lappin

  Meet College of Nursing Student Ambassador Rachel Lappin!  Rachel is a first-semester junior from Union, Ky. Rachel, like all of our CON student ambassadors, is a great resource for prospective students and new students looking for more information on UK's College of Nursing.  She offers a first-hand experience on what it is like to be a student at the college and is readily available for advice and to answer questions.   Learn more about Rachel and her experience at UK in her own words:

Three CON faculty members to be inducted as Fellows of the American Academy of Nursing

The American Academy of Nursing has selected three University of Kentucky College of Nursing faculty members, Dr. Camille Burnett, Dr. Lovoria Williams, and Dr. Sharon Lock, to be inducted into its 2020 class of Academy Fellows.    The inductees will be recognized for their significant contributions to health and health care at the Academy’s annual Transforming Health, Driving Policy Conference, taking place virtually October 29-31, 2020.

'Yellow Tulips' author Helen Joy George speaks at annual CON retreat

  Yellow Tulips author Helen Joy George was the featured guest speaker for the College of Nursing's annual staff and faculty retreat, held virtually Aug. 7.  George spoke about her book, a memoir of her journey coping with bipolar disorder through an unusual childhood, a mental breakdown at age 31 and how she fought for a year to stay alive in the mental health system.

UK College of Nursing conducting COVID-19 impact study on Appalachian, Black communities

LEXINGTON, Ky. — When it comes to the impact the COVID-19 pandemic has on communities, the College of Nursing at the University of Kentucky is taking a closer look, specifically on Appalachian and minority populations. "Data has shown that there may be a differential impact of COVID-19, how the pandemic is affecting African Americans, rural populations and individuals who have lower socioeconomic status. And as you know, the church really provides a diverse representation of all of those populations,” said associate professor Lovoria Williams.

To thank them for their tireless work, the University of Kentucky is expanding its Heart-2-Heart campaign to the state’s farmers July 1.

UK Nursing leaders appointed to Mayor's Commission for Racial Justice & Equality

  University of Kentucky Nursing leaders Kacy Allen Bryant, Dr. Lovoria Williams, and Dr. Tukea Talbert have been appointed to serve on Lexington Mayor Linda Gorton's Commission for Racial Justice & Equality.  They join a team of 70 community leaders who are charged with seeking solutions that dismantle systemic racism in Fayette County.  

Jake Higgins appointed to Kentucky Board of Nursing

(LEXINGTON, Ky.) UK College of Nursing professor Jake Higgins PhD, RN, CCRN-K, has been appointed to the Kentucky Board of Nursing by Governor Andy Beshear effective July 1, 2020.  "Congratulations Jake! We are thrilled to see Jake apply his scholarly nursing practice expertise to help drive effective decision making for evidence based practice, regulation, and policy for nursing licensure," said CON Dean Janie Heath.
