UK College of Nursing students partner with Voices of Hope, Madison Opioid Response and Empowerment to distribute Naloxboxes

  Voices of Hope, a recovery community center based in Lexington that helps people in recovery stay in recovery, is partnering with the Madison Opioid Response and Empowerment (MORE) program to place ten NaloxBoxes within Madison County. Operated by Kentucky River Foothills, a local community action agency, MORE works to sustain the fight against opioid use disorder/substance use disorder in Madison County. They focus on prevention, recovery, and treatment.

UK Nursing student places third in Global Case Competition

Congratulations to senior University of Kentucky College of Nursing student Ojawsi Piya for placing third in the Office of Global Health Initiatives' annual Global Case Competition.  Ojawsi was part of a four-person interprofessional team with students from other UK colleges: Mary Winifred Edom (College of Arts and Sciences), Abby Knoy (College of Arts and Sciences), and Farhad Shahidi (Gatton College of Business and Economics).

UK Nursing's Dr. Williams receives Fred and Marcielle de Beer Award for impactful diabetes research

Congratulations to the University of Kentucky College of Nursing’s Lovoria Williams PhD, FNP-C, FAANP, FAAN for receiving the 2021 Fred and Marcielle de Beer Award from the UK Barnstable Brown Diabetes Center.   The Fred and Marcielle de Beer Award recognizes faculty for excellence in research, education, clinical care or leadership activities related to diabetes.

Great American Smokeout, Lung Cancer Awareness Month Q&A with Dr. Melinda Ickes

  November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month. Each year, the American Cancer Society names the third Thursday of the month as The Great American Smokeout – a day to encourage people who smoke across the country take the first step toward a healthier life.

UK Nursing's Dr. Ellen Hahn receives prestigious 2021 Faye Glenn Abdellah Leadership Award

  The University of Kentucky College of Nursing’s Dr. Ellen Hahn was recently awarded the 2021 Faye Glenn Abdellah Leadership Award from the Friends of the National Institute of Nursing Research (FNINR) for her landmark research efforts to promote lung health and healthy environments.  

Tobacco Treatment Specialist Certification: 100 percent online, at your own pace

For over a decade, nurse researchers with UK College of Nursing’s BREATHE (Bridging Research Efforts and Advocacy Toward Healthy Environments) team have been changing the landscape for treating tobacco-dependent populations. This includes stepping up to create accredited training programs to teach providers how to effectively treat tobacco dependence.

  In honor of Veterans Day, the UK College of Nursing recognizes a student who’s not only served in the Air Force, but who’s goal after graduation is to aid fighters and veterans. Originally from Las Vegas, NV, Kyle Herzberg served for eight years in the Air Force as a Russian cryptological language analyst and is currently in the College’s Accelerated BSN program.

Office of Nursing Research releases 2020-2021 Annual Report

The University of Kentucky College of Nursing's Office Nursing Research has released it's annual report, touting the College's $36.2 million in active funding for FY21.  The report includes a comprehensive list of faculty publications as well as research profiles on Dr. Adebola Adeboyega and Dr. Ty Borders.   Read the 2020-2021 Office of Nursing Research Annual Report.
