Navy Lieutenant Pursues Lifelong Dream Through Online Nursing Program

  Lt. Aaron J. Lueke knows a thing or two about hard work and determination.  A U.S. Navy nurse and a first-generation college student, he has always yearned to be a part of something larger than himself.  For Lt. Lueke, that meant being the first in his family to earn a college degree, leave school without debt and join the military. While it was not the easy path, it was the only path for him.

Nursing to be part of new, interdisciplinary UK Health Education Building

  In April 2022, the University of Kentucky announced a commitment to build a new Health Education Building that will aid in the University's mission to train health professionals who will advance the well-being of the Commonwealth and beyond. The new building project is a collaboration among four health care colleges – Medicine, Public Health, Health Sciences and Nursing.

UK College of Nursing's Celebrates Kentucky Nursing Excellence

The University of Kentucky College of Nursing brought together distinguished nurse leaders from UK and across the state on May 12, 2022, with their Call to Post event to celebrate Kentucky nursing excellence. The event, held on Florence Nightingale's birthday, marked the College's first return to in-person celebrations (outside of graduation) since the COVID-19 pandemic began in 2020.   'The event was held at the Campbell House in Lexington, Ky. and the evening's program featured a who's who of Kentucky nurse leaders, including:

Oped: Nurse Suicide Awareness

Nurses have been identified as the backbone of healthcare, supporting, and protecting their patients.   During the pandemic nurses have endured an increased workload, short staffing, fear of becoming sick or worse exposing their families to sickness and very ill patients many of whom died with a nurse by their side and with no family members. The load nurses have carried over the past two years has been consistently heavy, and with no relief the backbone is feeling the strain. As nurses continue to move forward a heavy burden must be lifted.
