University of Kentucky Nursing leaders Kacy Allen Bryant, Dr. Lovoria Williams, and Dr. Tukea Talbert have been appointed to serve on Lexington Mayor Linda Gorton's Commission for Racial Justice & Equality. They join a team of 70 community leaders who are charged with seeking solutions that dismantle systemic racism in Fayette County.

(LEXINGTON, Ky.) UK College of Nursing professor Jake Higgins PhD, RN, CCRN-K, has been appointed to the Kentucky Board of Nursing by Governor Andy Beshear effective July 1, 2020. "Congratulations Jake! We are thrilled to see Jake apply his scholarly nursing practice expertise to help drive effective decision making for evidence based practice, regulation, and policy for nursing licensure," said CON Dean Janie Heath.

(LEXINGTON, KY.) -- "Today, Juneteenth is a reminder of how far we’ve come as a nation and how far we still need to go. June 19, 1865, is a momentous occasion that commemorates the official day in African American history that signifies the end of slavery in the United States. Even though the emancipation proclamation came two years earlier on January 1, 1863, the enslaved were held captive until this historical day which represents African American Freedom.

The event included several speakers representing students, faculty, and staff from the university's various health colleges.

De Jong will oversee the undergraduate and graduate programs of the college, with a focus on interdisciplinary teaching, research, clinical practice, and service.

"Throughout the weekend, I heard from several people in our College of Nursing community who are deeply hurt and grieving from the recent acts of racial injustice and social unrest throughout the country. These events come on top of the devastation COVID-19 is taking on this country, including the disproportionate burden and loss of lives in black communities due to the virus.
