KCSP Hosts 2019 Annual Conference "Envisioning a Smoke-free Future"

LEXINGTON, Ky. (April 18, 2019) – The Kentucky Center for Smoke-Free Policy (KCSP), the Kentucky Tobacco Prevention & Cessation Program (KTPC), Kentucky Department of Public Health and the University of Kentucky (UK) College of Nursing celebrated their tobacco free successes and vision for a tobacco-free future at the 2019 Kentucky Tobacco Conference, "Envisioning a Smoke- free Future". The conference took place April 16 and 17 at the Embassy Suites in Lexington.

College of Nursing Hosts Annual Student Scholarship Showcase Alongside CCTS Conference

  The UK College of Nursing scholarship showcase was held alongside the 14th annual spring conference of the UK Center for Clinical and Translational Science (CCTS) on April 15 at the Lexington Convention Center. While the CCTS supports research across the spectrum of diseases, this year's conference focused on "The Science of Health Policy and Systems Change."

Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing Inducts College of Nursing Students at 42nd Annual Ceremony

  On Saturday, April 13, the Delta Psi chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society inducted 42 University of Kentucky BSN students, 22 DNP students and five PhD students. In addition, four BSN students from Berea College and six BSN students from Campbellsville University were inducted.

Undergraduate Nursing Student Presents Research at TraumaCon

  Undergraduate nursing student Sophie Post presented "Don’t get Back in the Saddle: An Evaluation of Horse-related Head Injuries in the Emergency Department" at this year's TraumaCon in Lexington, Kentucky. TraumaCon is a three-day national conference for nurses involved in the care of trauma patients and the management of trauma programs and trauma systems. View photos here. 

Undergraduate Student Represents UK College of Nursing for APNA

UK College of Nursing undergraduate student Sarret Seng was recently featured in a newsletter from the American Psychiatric Nurses Association.  She was also recently named one of thirty American Psychiatric Nurses Association (APNA) Board of Directors Student Scholars.

Dr. Kristin Ashford Receives SEC Faculty Achievement Award

Kristin Ashford, PhD, professor and associate dean in the University of Kentucky College of Nursing, will be presented with the prestigious Southeastern Conference (SEC) Faculty Achievement Award. The SEC Faculty Achievement recognizes faculty from SEC universities with outstanding records in teaching and scholarship.

Kentucky Deans, Students Advocate on Capitol Hill

  Monday was a record day for the AACN Kentucky deans and students to meet with legislators advocating for Title XIII nursing workforce funding and Nursing NIH funding in Washington, D.C. Kentucky Deans include Drs. Mary Kishman from NKU, Marcia Hobbs from Murray State and Sonya Hardin from Louisville. Students include Murray State CRNA student Michael Goss (UK BSN alum), UK PhD student Stacy Stanifer and UK Med-Vet student Matt Dixon. Legislators included Congressmen Hal Rogers, Andy Barr, Tom Massie and Brett Guthrie.
