Dr. Misook Chung Hosts 2nd Global Korean Nursing Foundation-USA Leadership Program

Dr. Misook Chung, PhD, RN, FAHA, FAAN, professor, hosted the 2nd Global Korean Nursing Foundation (GKNF)-USA Leadership Program at the University of Kentucky Gatton Student Center, June 14-15, 2019.  “This conference is devoted to build a bridge for early career Korean nurses to advance their career in academia, health care systems, and other health related fields, ultimately taking on greater leadership roles,” says Kunsook Bernstein, PhD, RN, PMHNP-BC, FAAN, president of GKNF-USA.

UK's First Agriculture Nurse Sets the Stage for Kentucky's Farmers

  Mark Cornelison Photography In Lincoln County, the hottest ticket in town isn't a big concert or hit musical. It's Jack Blair and his wife Thelma, two local farmers, performing on stage at the Lincoln County Extension Office in Stanford, Ky. In the show, Thelma, concerned with Jack's hearing, asks him if he remembered to wear ear plugs before working with his loud farm machinery. Jack's response: "WHAT?" The audience, comprising farmers from the surrounding community, roars with laughter.

Faculty Spotlight: Dr. Lovoria Williams

Growing up the daughter of a tobacco farmer in Christian County, Kentucky, Dr. Lovoria Williams witnessed many behaviors that are indicative of Kentucky’s health disparities. She also observed the power of health ministries in churches, as her mother was a gospel singer who traveled the state singing in congregations. This combination of childhood experiences informed her desire to be a nurse from a young age.

Nursing Students Saving Lives: Mary Grace Becker

  On September 22, 2018, healthy, 60-year-old Frank Spragens was running near UK. Four miles in, Spragens had no pain or shortness of breath when he collapsed. A family passing by stopped to help. Down the street, UK nursing student Mary Grace Becker was on her friend’s porch. Without hesitation, she sprinted to the scene. When Becker arrived, Spragens was purple. Instinct and training kicked in. She took charge. A woman was already performing CPR, but Becker immediately recognized the compressions were too slow and confidently took over.

College of Nursing Simulation Center Awarded Provisional Accreditation from Society for Simulation in Healthcare

  The University of Kentucky College of Nursing Clinical Simulation and Learning Center (CSLC) has been awarded provisional accreditation through the Society for Simulation in Healthcare. It is now the only accredited center in the state of Kentucky.

College of Nursing Hosts Inaugural Silks, Saddles & Scrubs Soiree at Keeneland

  The University of Kentucky College of Nursing hosted its inaugural Silks, Saddles & Scrubs Soiree on Thursday, May 16, 2019 at Keeneland's Limestone Cafe. The event raised money for student scholarships as part of an ongoing effort for Kentucky Can: The 21st Century Campaign.
