Jean Edward, PhD, RN, CHPE, assistant professor, was selected to be in the inaugural fellowship program of the Society of Nurse Scientists, Innovators, Entrepreneurs & Leaders (SONSIEL). She will be joining a very distinguished group of nurses who share the mission to magnify, network and elevate the expertise of nurse innovators as transformation agents that contribute to the reform of health care.

Dr. Lovoria Williams Named Nurse Researcher of the Year by National Black Nurses Association

Lovoria Williams, PhD, FNP-BC, FAANP, was named Nurse Researcher of the Year by the National Black Nurses Association at the 47th Annual Conference in New Orleans on Saturday, July 27. The award represents her work to deliver community-based interventions that reduce health disparities among minority and medically-underserved populations by increasing tobacco cessation and cancer screening behaviors and reducing obesity and diabetes.

Dr. Ana Maria Linares: Changing the Landscape of Maternal-Child Health

Originally a midwife from Chile, Ana Maria Linares, DNS, RN, IBCLC, associate professor, is a Fulbright Scholar who is changing the landscape of maternal-child health by developing nursing interventions to increase breastfeeding rates. In this country alone, the rate of exclusive breastfeeding is 25 percent, an incredibly low number by global standards. Dr. Linares’ work, which focuses particularly on Hispanic women, brings lifetime health benefits to children and their mothers. In one study, she increased exclusive breastfeeding by 50 percent.

Evelyn Parrish, PhD, PMHNP-BC, FAANP, associate professor, director of Accreditation & Strategic Outcomes and DNP Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing Track co-coordinator, was inducted as a fellow into the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) in Indianapolis, Indiana, on Friday, June 21. This year's AANP annual conference theme was Keeping Health Care on Track. Attendees had access to 400 educational sessions and workshops and unparalleled networking opportunities.
